New A6500

I tried out an open box A6500.  Without changing the setting to be able to raise the heat threshold, I was able to exhaust a fully charged battery and the camera did not shut down.  About seventy minutes or so of recording 4k 24p 100mb/sec bit rate, at an ambient temperature around 70F (indoors).  Needless to say, I think I am keeping the camera.  The temperature warning light went on after about 45 minutes of recording, but the camera kept recording.  Now, I had to restart the recording after the 29:50 cutoff, but the idle time was a few seconds at most.  Not too bad.

frequent cuts are preferred to just one long unbroken video stream.

The testing that I did was to figure out what the overheating threshold for this particular A6500.

Well, I was watching an instructional video today that had been recorded with a 6300 and it cut out (overheated) during the video at about the 20 min mark. So I say it most certainly is/was an issue. Glad to see that it has been somewhat resolved on the 6500.

Install the OPEN MEMORY TWEAK and you can record longer video without the camera shutting off after the arbitrary 29:50 cutoff.

Re: New A6500

Thanks for the tip, but I never shoot clips longer than a few minutes.  I only do the long clips when I am testing for overheating.  Then again, one never knows when one will need to take a long clip.
