A6300 HELP Missing pictures

Everyone!  hoping you can help.

Second time this has happened with my A6300.

I take pictures, I can see them in the viewfinder/review on the back screen.

I get home and put them in the computer and they are not on the card. Put he card back in the camera and can't see them.

This happened back in February and I just assumed it was cause I did not format the disk before using and went on ..sad about losing pictures. but moved on.

TODAY - here is exactly what happened:

1.  Took pics throughout the day

2.  Could see the pictures on the camera

3.  Back home - put the disk in the computer COULD not find them at all.  (I do have other files on the disk - did not format again - forgot - but this CAN'T be it - keep reading).

4. Put disk back in the camera and get the big "?" on the back of the screen.

5. Try in computer again can't see it.

6. Traveling with a friend who has an NEX6- put my disk in her camera - COULD SEE my pictures for the day.

7.  Try back in the computer and my camera can't see it.

HELP!!!!!!!!

And if this is a camera issue - does SONY really help.  figure I should call them.

I have had the camera since July - but only used it for a big vacation in Hawaii - where I fell in water and it had to be fixed by Precision Camera.

Assuming you mean SD card, not "disk" oh yes, that can be it! The camera creates a data base to keep track of image location and other stuff on your card. Never use the card for any other purpose than taking pictures. Never format the card on your computer. Always format card in camera. (This is also important for video, cause it determines whether your camera will record PAL mode or NTSC mode).

Traveling with a friend who has an NEX6- put my disk in her camera - COULD SEE my pictures for the day.

Not sure about this - could you see the full images or just the preview pics the camera generated automatically? But certainly there is hope.

And if this is a camera issue - does SONY really help. figure I should call them.

Probably no need to send it to Sony. Any data recovery software should be able to find it, if it is still there. Whatever you do - do NOT write to the card (or take new pictures with it) cause that might overwrite whatever is left.

On the NEX6 - we can see the whole pictures - everything just like normal.

My calling sony is to find out if something is wrong with my camera. My concern is that there is some setting or something..Or why would I be able to see it on the NEX6.

AND why could I see it while I was out and about and even reviewed them on the camera.  Then as soon as I take the SD card out of the camera into the laptop then it is gone and can't see it on the A6300, the computer and the NEX6.

Thanks for the help!

To the best of my knowledge, there is no setting that would make your pictures visible on one camera, not the other. There is however a hidden database, and maybe that became corrupt.

What file directory are you trying to find your images in after you plug the card into your computer? Is the directory still there, but completely empty? Or is the directory gone too?

LOL on the sony - which is why I really don't want to call.

I am going to try to move everything off the card so I can format and try again.

BUT It has happened twice and so odd.

And I am here traveling with my friend and I actually put the card in and saw them clear as day - UGH.

Hey BB-I don't do anything to specify where to find the pictures...what I have done is just put in the SD card in computer and then look for the number that show up like DCIM/109MSDCF etc.

there are directories there from previous days.

And the DCIM shows updated today so I know pics were there...(again, I know they ARE there as they are on my friends camera).  We actually just sent the pics from her camera via wifi (nex6) to my phone so I would have them.

this particular trip I am not worried about the pics so much as my upcoming trip to Alaska that is in two weeks!

If your camera can see them, your computer can see them. Period.

Let me ask again: what directory are you looking at? Is the directory still there and completely empty? Or is it gone too?

Morning BBQ - just to recap

1. The Camera COULD see the pics while out and about

2. When I put in the computer - could not SEE the pics - looked in the DCIM folder and there are other pictures in there from previous trips etc.  (because I did not format it - just because I forgot)

Below is info on where I looked.

Re: A6300 HELP Missing pictures

stacey,

Did you have any updates on your disappearing pictures issue? I have the same problem:

I took a bunch shots today, some I could see a preview while on a shoot, and now back at my computer, I don't see any the pictures from today (only the one I took after I found they were missing).
