Cheapest Rebel with good centrepoint AF?

I need a cheap 2nd hand backup body for shooting sports. Something with snappy crosstype f/5.6 centrepoint AF. My old 650d worked quite well at this, but if there's an earlier model I'd be happy with that too.

Any recommendations?

You can go back to at least a Canon xs (1000D) which I know had a center cross type focus point. Even earlier models might have it but I would not suggest going back further than that. I would suggest you look at finding a good condition Canon T2i (550d) with the same 18mp sensor your 650d had. You should be able to find one for a reasonable price.

Thanks. Do you know if the 550D centre point AF sensor is as good as that in the 650D?

The T2i has f/5.6 cross type center focus with extra sensitivity at f/2.8.

I'd go for a 600D or 60D. Those models came with revised AF that meant microadjustment was less likely to be needed.

I've been happy in that regard (and other things too) with my Canon T2i (550D) or Canon T3i (600D) cameras for over four years.  The autofocus for me has locked on precisely.

I just got my second camera too. The first one was the 600D and now I have the 700D. Huge difference in details. What actually would you like to know is the 700D is in your list?

I hadn't thought of the 700D as I wanted the oldest one I can find with decent centre point AF, and I know the 650d isn't bad...
