Canon M5, loose eyepiece?

Hello,

I noticed today that my eyepiece on my Canon M5, the right side, is coming loose. Does anyone know if the eyepiece on the M5 is designed to be removed, and possibly replaced?

On my 5D Mark III it pops off and easily back on but that does not seem like the case here.

Thanks for your help!

if you're talking about the little rubber pad on the VF it looks like can be removed

Hello Beagle1, yes it is the rubber pad. I tried playing with it to remove it but could not and did not want to risk breaking it. Were you able to remove your rubber cover from the VF?

Thanks!

I didn't want to remove it!

But lifting it slightly with my fingernail I could see it was stuck on tight.

Yes, it is removable.  Same as it is on all of the Canon DSLRs (and most SLRs I presume).  It removes by sliding up.  It is this way to enable VF accessories such as right-angle finders, etc, to be mounted.

There is no ribbed lines on the side to indicate that you press in that spot to squeeze which releases the tabs in order for you to lift up. Also, the viewfinder is different from DSLRs. The viewfinder is smaller and there are no VF accessories that would allow you to mount them.

From the looks of it, it doesn't look like it can come off or at least not as easy as the DSLRs. I would contact Canon and have it fixed as it is under warranty.

Re: Canon M5, loose eyepiece?

Be careful, the EVF-DC1, does not have a replacement rubber eyepiece. The M5 could potentially be in the same boat (doubt it though),

I do stand corrected. I had been setting up both of my bags recently (EOS system and EOS-M system). I keep my 6D with a lens (24-105L) and 60D without in one bag, and my M5 with 15-45 and M6 without lens in the other.

Anyhow, it was the 60D that I wound up having to turn around in the bag to prevent dislodging the eye cup, not the M5. It was that experience with the 60D and 6D that I remembered, and thought it was the M5. My apologies to the OP.

Re: Canon M5, eyepiece - not removable

For those happening onto this thread with interest in removing the M5 eye bumper, I tried as gingerly as possible but still managed to crack the flange under it.  The bumper adhesive was stronger than the flange.  II.e., it seems that it is not removable.   I was hoping to modify a Hoodman eye cup to fit the M5 but ended up using epoxy to repair the M5 flange and eye bumper.
