My new (old) G6 has about six stuck/hot pixels. My SD770 had about three, out of the box.

I'm surprised Canon never added an automated hot pixel mapping feature. Both of my Olys from the same vintage ('04) have it.

So would you return an eBay camera for it, or should I just clone them out and be happy? 😜

I was glad to have the feature on my old Oly's, I remember not many cameras offered pixel mapping at that time.

If you like the camera and want to keep it otherwise, good news! You can use CHDK which has a pixel mapping feature (not to mention adding a lot of other nice options):

Edit: I don't see your models specifically listed, but some models will work anyway and have just not been tested. You could give it a shot.

To be clear, we recommend against trying to run a CHDK build for a different model. There are a few a cases where Canon just re-badged the same internals, but that should be verified with a firmware dump rather than trying to run other builds.

CHDK is available for the SD770 (aka IXUS 85). The G6 will almost certainly never will be supported because it's a Digic 1 camera.

Thanks guys. Honestly it's not that big of a deal, and at the prices 2004 cameras are going for, I just ordered a second G6. I'll keep the "bad" one as a backup. Fingers crossed that the next one has fewer or no stuck pixels!

DxO will correct stuck pixels, and I think PhotoShop does it too.

Second eBay G6 arrived. About five or six stuck pixels again. 😕 Oh well, I'll live with it. Otherwise it's such a cool camera, can't wait to put it to good use.
