FIVE.

The PEN-F was not intended as a replacement, not to mention it's C-AF is rubbish and it's overpriced.

The E-PL7 doesn't have programmable dials, so it's not a viable option, as far as I'm concerned.

So I ask you - "Where's my E-P6?"

I can tell you where is *my* E-P6: in a drawer at development dept. waiting for availability of global shutter and hand-held hires mode.
Ok, maybe I am waiting for E-P7 and don't need your E-P6... not sure what you are missing in your E-P5. I don't use C-AF and burst mode, and don't use my camera for movies. I assume that having different needs I would have got a different model, but the E-P5 was (and still is) the right camera for me.

I largely want an integrated EVF, more megapixels, and a host of things that could probably be provided in a firmware upgrade but Oly isn't bothering.

I stilll enjoy shooting with my EP5, don't get me wrong, it's just that I feel like the PEN line is being neglected and if it were discontinued then I'd probably go elsewhere.

The cycles in this maturing cycle will get longer, and small improvements won't trigger model refreshes like they used too.

Think of it as good for GAS attacks.

My friend Google found it..... http://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2016/03/05/olympus-interview-cpplus-2016-recovery-is-techology-pen-f-experiment and scroll down to the Pen-F pic and start reading, the bit under the E-PL7 pic lower down is where the Oly admission is.

Hey, thanks for the link.

I wish I understood exactly what the 'experiment' is. Is it an experiment of pushing prices (and margins) up, or an experiment in selling a camera with bad CAF and a gimmicky dial that hipsters can get excited about?

You are missing the forest for the trees. Any model introduced from the E-M1II forward will have a price that will hurt your feelings - the economic reality is even camera-crazed types like Olympus won't be making cameras if they can't turn a profit doing so.

And as others have pointed out, there never has been an EP-series camera with C-AF any more than terrible. And to be fair, Pen-F probably has more processing power and the C-AF likely scales a bit with that. But it's a twice zero equals zero type of thing.

You'll have to buy an E-M1II if that's not good enough - it was never reasonable to expect that level of C-AF in non-flagship models anyway.

I kinda feel like us shooters that prefer rangefinder-style shooting in a retro package are being somewhat neglected at the moment.

I have perhaps the world's tiniest violin for just such occasions. Sales numbers and profit/loss would have dictated no offerings at all. I don't much care for the 'creative' dial either, but at some point you are going to have to recognize that it's a wart on the face of the very camera you pine for. Stamping your feet and repeating 'but the C-AF sucks' is irrelevant - it was never realistic to expect more.

See the review of the new MF camera by Fuji (GFX 50S). It offers as well a detachable EVF. Actually less good than the one of E-P5 because it needs an optional adapter for becoming tiltable.

would be just an E-P5 MkII, but that would indeed make sense.
I would add a more exact gauge level, maybe also with improved graphic: for ex. I like it better on my GM1.

Integrated EVF is an upgrade and a must

Sorry, after my GX8's EVF, there is no way I'm getting another camera with an add-on optional EVF. Also love it's tilt-able mode as well. And no, something like an VF-4 is a compromise as it's sticks out and it's IQ is not as good as the one on my GX8.

When and more importantly, if Olympus comes out with another E-Px with an integrated tilt-able EVF (or another Pen-F) but with at least equal quality to the GX8 if not better, then I'll consider getting it, otherwise, sorry, anything else would be a downgrade.

(mind you, for a camera the size of the GM5, I'm willing to go EVF'less as I most likely wouldn't miss the EVF for the way I would use it)

Yes, and it is still a pretty good camera. I still have mine, though I have relegated it to a backup body to my Pen F.

The PEN-F was not intended as a replacement, not to mention it's C-AF is rubbish and it's overpriced.

Agreed, the Pen F isn't a replacement for the E-P5, but it is a quite capable camera for what it is intended to beI use it mostly for street shooting and some landscapes and find it works perfectly for what I do. The stabilization is truly amazing, which is important to me due to my familial tremors. Single autofocus works well and I have used it even with some sport shooting, so C-AF isn't an interest to me. Neither is video, as I am a stills shooter.

The E-PL7 doesn't have programmable dials, so it's not a viable option, as far as I'm concerned.

So I ask you - "Where's my E-P6?"

Try the Pen F and see it it fits your needs. If not, the E-M5ii may be an alternative.

Yeah I might end up with the Pen-F once it's price gets more realistic as it gets older.

I can live with the C-AF as I'm hardly a sports shooter anyway, so my main concerns really are with getting a few more Mpx and having updated hardware so general operations are quicker than the E-P5.

I almost always shoot with the EVF, so an integrated one is a must in anything new I might consider, but I just love rangefinder style shooting and the faux DSLR look just doesn't really appeal to me.

ps: Who says you can't shoot sports with the E-P5? >>>>

There a rumours in another thread here that there Pen F is discontinued. Can't say I believe it myself, but maybe they're about to release an E-6?
