How many different cameras are you using?

Just curious: How many different cameras are you actively using? Not counting those collecting dust in some storage, or those that happen to come with your phone or tablet.

I use 3 different cameras at the moment: my m43 for general shooting, a compact FF for landscapes and "special" shots, and an IR-converted m43 for, well, IR photography. I also have a waterproof P&S (Olympus Tough) for diving etc, but that doesn't happen on a regular basis, so not counting it as active.

Just wondering if I am average or what. Share what you do and why.

I used to have a bunch of other cams and got rid of most of them.

That was 3 years ago. Liked the E-PM2 so much that I got rid of all the others!

Four (I didn't vote because I am not a semi-pro):

  • GX8 + 100-400mm for wildlife
  • FF for everything else, except:
  • GX7 + 20mm for certain indoors things - recently, a memorial service for a friend
  • FZ1000 - not often, but a while back, a going away picnic, where 25-400mm was really nice in a large, open area!

Re: How many different cameras are you using?

Thanks for your reply! Interesting that you keep both the GX7 and 8 around.

Re: How many different cameras are you using?

E-M1.1 main cam.

E-M10.1 secondary light weight for occasional travel.

Pany G3 converted to IR for when the fancy strikes me.

Perhaps I should have said four, Galaxy S4 for when I don't have my mFTs with me.

Two systems, Leica M262 and Olympus, where I just replaced the E-M1 with the E-M1 Mark II as my primary camera.

If that is a camera you are using all the time - yes. I have taken shots with my S7 here and there but I don't take it along as my camera, so I would not count it. Great to scan receipts though.

Thanks all for the votes and responses...

Re: How many different cameras are you using?

A pair of E-M1s for most shooting/events, an E-M5.2 when I want a smaller kit or am going Hi-Res, an LF1 is with me at all times, a GH3 for some events, a D750/D7100 pair for some sports/wildlife, an EPL6 IR conversion (and a TZ5 IR conversion).

My E-M5 is gathering dust.

Re: Most of the time just one, but sometimes two

I still have a Nikon D200 and a Panasonic GF1. Most of the time I use only my E-M5 (man, what old cameras I have!).

I still have some really nice Nikon telephotos, so sometimes I shoot with a lens like my Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 mounted to the D200, and a wider lens mounted to my E-M5.

At other times I might shoot with the 12-40mm f/2.8 on my E-M5 and a telephoto, fisheye, or prime mounted to my GF1.

I think two at a time is about all I want to manage. My ideal would be a PEN-F and an EM1-II

I don't know if a smartphone counts, but sometimes I will use my Smartphone in a pinch.

Re: How many different cameras are you using?

6 different camera bodies: GM1, GX85, PEN-F, Nikon 1 V1, Nikon D90, Olympus TG-4

Nikon V1 when I need to take pics of my gears for sale on craigslist or online posting.  My son owns it - I gave it to him when I moved to m43.

Nikon D90 + f1.8 when I want a bit more (shallower) DOF.

TG-4 when I out in the snow/sea/shower(rain)

Re: How many different cameras are you using?

I use more than one body in one camera system. M4/3rds allows the use of different bodies with lenses of the appropriate size. So I use a GX8 with larger lenses, and a GM5 for every day with smaller ones. The  7-14mm 4 is on my GX7 most of the time.  For the trip I am on right now, I threw the GF1 with 20mm in the bag. That may be four camera bodies, but it is one system.

The dual IS GX8 is wonderful with the big lens. The smaller body GX7 with its tilt screen is inconspicuous indoors.

I wasn't being "not nice," just stating why I didn't vote! If you wish, I'll vote for "four!"

Re: How many different cameras are you using?

Four.

G80 for natural light shots of flowers and large, sunny day invertebrates (e.g. butterflies, damselflies), and flash shots of very small invertebrates (e.g. springtails, barkflies).

FZ330 for flash shots of other invertebrates.

70D for occasional birds in flight sessions.

TZ60 to use while out for a stroll or visit.

I may get a 1" camera for sunsets/skyscapes often with boats and ships, and if so this might take over somewhat from the 70D and/or TZ60.

Looks like there are more IR conversions out there than I thought. Odd that there are relatively few images popping up on this site, even in the B&W threads.

Re: How many different cameras are you using?

I use:

  • GX80 for evening walks/restaurant visits. It's also my handheld videocamera
  • G7 for tripod videocamera work using external microphone
  • Sigma DP1M & DP2M for landscapes
  • Olympus E-M1 for use with my old 4/3's lenses

I own several cameras, but I only use 2 now:

-GM5, so small I can carry it everywhere, I always have it in my working bag.
-GX8, excellent handling, lots of buttons and controls, great viewfinder, dual-IS, DfD. I use it when size isn't an issue. I carry it in a backpack during my vacations and days off.

The nice thing is that they share the same lenses and most accessories.

As I don't use my other cameras anymore, I might slowly sell them...

One for me usually.

I also have an E-M1, soon to be sold.

And an E-M5 which my girlfriend uses, which also acts as a backup.

Re: How many different cameras are you using?

Two cameras in use, three gathering dust.
Given the funds I'd willingly adjust the camera count up to my acoustic guitar count of three regularly used, two still sporadically, and another couple just gathering dust...

BTW, GAS was originaly a term concerned with guitars not cameras: Guitar Acquisition Syndrome...

I'm using a Panasonic G3 on a daily basis for product shots, an Olympus EPL2 (because I love it), a Pentax K1000 35mm film camera (because I also love film) and an old Panasonic zs35 that I found in like new condition at a yard sale for $3 (because it was only 3 bucks).
