Finally, a real standard cheap prime for their non full frame bodies

I was able to test this in a canon's store attached to 80D and i was really glad canon now has a cheap wide prime (1.6 x crop = 38mm equivalent) that can compete with nikon's famous cheap 35mm 1.8g AFS (1.5 x crop = 52mm) . Why just now canon!? Now canon non full frame owners shooting indoors with narrow and limited space to move around can enjoy an easier to use prime than the nifty fifty which is actually 80mm (too narrow) attached to any canon's non full frame body.

There is also the 40 mm EF 2.8 STM

If they want a bit more reach/less wide. (64mm equiv)

And don't walk in front of a moving bus.
Unless it's going backwards.
Then walking in front is the smart move.

Very nice lens with great IQ and fairly wide max aperture.  Love it as a walk around or for indoors.  Wish it had IS, but in a pancake form factor probably not possible.  And I've been using mine since it came out a little over two years again.  ðŸ˜€

Except a f2.8 lens doesn't really compete with a f1.8 lens.

Any more than 24mm competes with 35mm?

Re: There is also the 40 mm EF 2.8 STM

If I'm going to buy a prime, it's going to have an aperture larger than f/2.8. I use the excellent 17-55/2.8 IS for 80% of my photos.  When I need more light I switch to my 50/1.4.  I would love to get a 35/1.4.

Re: There is also the 40 mm EF 2.8 STM

I don't think comparing the 24 STM to the 17-55 IS USM is entirely apples to apples.  $150 and 125 gm vs $829 and 625 gm are pretty different lens beyond zoom vs prime.  The 24 STM sure carries easily on my 70 D.  To be sure, then17-55 is arguably the best EFS lens Canon makes.  If I want faster I use my 50 F1.8 STM.  In combination, those two, primes are really a great, light weight, and cost effective pair of lenses.  I would kind of like the 17-55 though, and if Canon updates it or I catch a great refurb deal, it might end up in my bag.
