Which one should I buy; Canon 760D or Canon 80D?

Hi everyone,

I currently have Canon 1100D and recently decided to upgrade my camera, so I searched and found Canon 760D and Canon 80D interesting.

Mostly I shoot landscape and macro photos, and sometimes outdoor portrait. I also love star trail photography and stuff like that. Photography is a hobby for me, and I mostly use my camera when I travel or when I go to countryside (about once in a month).

80D is a perfect camera, I love it, but the price is so close to my budget (maybe a little over my budget :-D)

760D is almost as good as 80D, and I think it would be a better choice, but the lack of "Timelapse Recording", slower continuous shots and weaker noise reduction is a little annoying.

What would you recommend?

I went through the same process when I upgraded from my 40D.  I opted for the T6S (760D) over the 80D for the slight price advantage and the lower weight.  The weight of the body was a big factor, since I found my old 40D just too heavy.

I have been very pleased with the performance of the T6S.  IQ is excellent, features are plenty for me, and I do appreciate the lighter body coupled with some of the lightweight Canon lenses I have.

My one complaint is the limited life of the small battery that is standard with the T6S.  I never go anywhere without an extra battery ... the battery on the 80D has much better life.

Another vote for the 760D. I recently upgraded my T1i. The T6s fit better in my hands, was lower in weight and price, and had all the features I wanted...touchscreen, new focus and metering system, new 24MP sensor, and the rear dial was a feature I wanted too.

I've been very happy with the purchase, $678 new body only international model off Amazon marketplace. Then I got a used 15-85mm from the same place for $392 with the rest of my budget.

Yes, the battery life is so much limited than my current canon 1100D (T3), and it would be a pain, but it's a good idea to have an extra battery.

With some new Canon DSLR comming, you should start to find reasonable 80D second hand. Or, wait for those new products.

I was able to get my T6S through the Canon refurbished online store.  With a one year Canon USA warranty, I bought the body with both the 18-135 and 55-250 IS STM kit lenses for $859.  These deals vary, as does availability, but there are some really excellent deals there.  It's always worth checking out.

Well put! This is a much better deal than the one I got, except that I didn't want those lenses.... but a new buyer might.

I upgraded from my 1100D to an 80D. Why do you want to upgrade? What is your 1100d missing? If you're just shooting static stuff the 1100d is not so bad iq wise, or are you working with raw files alot? Maybe a really good lens would be better?

The only thing I don't like about the 80D is the size/bulk. I find it's a pain to drag around on vacation for a few weeks. I used the 1100d for long vacations.

If I had to do it again and knowing what I know now...the 760 would do me just fine...but that's just me.

Sounds like you are trying to overrule your feelings with your thoughts. I imagine if you succeed you will always regret it, even if it's just a tiny bit, deep down.

I'm giving my 1100D to my wife, and need a new camera for myself to carry around :-D.

That's a good point, I'm almost to decided to buy a 760D for now.

Just a heads up...the Canon 77D replaces the camera you are considering, but actually has the same focus system as the 80D. It will be released March 30th. Don't know if it fits into your budget, but it is lighter and a little smaller than the 80D and is less expensive than the 80D if bought new.

I heard about it yesterday and it sounds so good, I'm not sure if it will be available in that time on my country with a reasonable price (usually new released gadget are more expensive that it should be for months). So if I decide to buy 77D I should wait about 2~3months, and I'm not patient at all

If you wait 2-3 months (as you would for the 77D), can your budget grow?
