If you owned a G7X Mk ll and G9X would you forsake any other compact cameras ?

If you were an enthusiast, and you owned the G7X Mk ll and the G9X, would you "have all the bases covered" or would you still keep an S95 and / or ELPH 330 HS ?

I already own a Nikon D90 with a Nikon 70-200 2.8 lens but that requires bringing a large shoulder bag. For absolute image quality that combo always comes along on vacations.

I understand that certain cameras have certain sweet spots, and no camera/lens combo does everything well. And owner comments about any of the compacts mentioned are quite positive .

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and comments and experiences.

That's really a great question, red, and pardon me if I change up the premise just a bit.

For me, the premise would be the G7XII and the G3X.

I own, as you know,  by the amazing generosity of another DPR user, a new G3X, and I love my camera.

If I wanted a second camera, it would be a pocketable model, which would be the G7XII.  For me, the similarities in form-factor, low-light capabilities and feature set are so close between the two I would go out on a limb to say the G3X could be described as a super-zoom version of the G7XII.

That said,  the G3X lives on my belt, 24/7, and for those times when I would not need or want the zoom reach of the G3X, at an indoor party in a small room, or in a museum, for example,  the G7X could live in my pocket instead.

Since having taken delivery of my G3X, I have been truly rejoicing in my new photographic freedom!

Personally I might keep the S95 for terrible weather days. My bad weather camera is a Sony RX100 version 1. Still good but I have the newer IV which I really baby.

I see no reason for the ELPH. I think the ELPH's time has come and gone. Maybe you could donate it to a friend or young person. I have given so many of my older cameras away and don't miss them.

Good luck!

I'm no expert on the capabilities of the G cameras, but afaik none have a decent telephoto.  Because of my habits, I like a decent telephoto (300mm equiv), so I much prefer my old SX210.

My g7x covers the standard bases really well. It fits in any jacket and most pants pockets, and handles low light, wide angle, and even portraits pretty well. The only thing I ever really miss is some extra telephoto reach.

Keep in mind, because the g7x has a much bigger sensor and higher megapixels than the elphs, you can do a little bit of cropping and probably get to around 200mm at similar quality to the elphs without a crop.

If I were more of a tele shooter I might stick something like an SX710 in my other pocket if I need portable reach, or a g3x if the larger size is still ok. Sometimes on trips or with wildlife, theres just no replacement for zoom.
