Good thing though. About 15 years or so ago I bought a Canon 100-400. I just traded it in to B&H which cut the price of the T20 kit in half. Feeling really good because that lens performed well for years but lately it has been gathering dust.

Nice! A wait buddy. How long ago did you order/been waiting?

I ordered on April 5, right before they went on holiday. They reopen April 19th so I'm hoping they get a shipment in while they are on break. In the meanwhile, I'm looking for a deal on a used 23/1.4 and a 55-200mm.

That's a pretty long wait. You'll get yours long before I get mine unless they get a large shipment. I'm going to really try hard to limit myself to the X-T20 with the 16-50 for as long as possible....

True, but I have ordered from B&H for almost 20 years and they are an outstanding company. I have found it is usually worth the wait. I don't mind the wait in this case as the purchase is tied with the sale of that old lens.

Me too - I love B&H. I'm a native now-former Noo Yawker and I used to buy lots of stuff right at B&H.

Very cool. I plan to visit next time I'm there. My dad grew up there and we still have relatives there.

If you want some reading. Here are a few reviews that helped me to decide on the 16-50mm mark 2.

Thanks Dave, I've read them. I cannot imagine that there anything on the web relating to the X-T20, the 18-55/16-50, and the X100F that I have not read! I've been laboring over this decision for months and started out in a completely different mindset looking at the Nikon D5500, then discovered the world of mirrorless which I had heard of but paid little attention to. Then I shifted to Olympus, Sony and Panasonic mirrorless until I came up on Fuji's which was always a name I heard of but knew little about. The thing that sold me on the Fuji's is how great the jpegs look right out of the camera plus as an old 35mm camera enthusiast the dials on top are really attractive.

I am ordering my Fujifilm X-T20 soon and am still hesitating on which kit lens to buy.

  1. XF 18-55mm for $970
  2. XC 16-50mm for $800

Which one should I go with ?

I am more into landscape and architecture photography and I also appreciate that nice bokeh!

I am new to Fuji and am thus only starting to build my lens collection.

I am already thinking about maybe going for a more specific landscape lens like the Samyang 12mm f2.0 and the more common XF 35mm.

Thanks in advance for your feedback and advice!!

16-50 is better from FUJI, and Samyang 10mm is better than 12mm

And between a X-T20 with 18-55 for 970 vs X-T1 with 18-55 for 1330 ? Still X-T20?

I haven't ordered from Adorama in years, so I can't recommend them now, but they have several x_T20 cobos on sale now, including a "premium kit" with the 18-55 for $970.

You will get better results with primes, have a look at the 23mm F1.4 or the 16mm F1.4.

But both primes are not stabilized. The stabilization on the 16-50 II works very well. It is actually a good zoom for such small and lightweight lens.

But both primes are quite likely optically better. For landscapes I would rather use the smaller 23 2.0 and 16 2.8 versions of these lenses.

I would definitely prefer the XT 20 over the XT 10.

One more thing: While it's unmarked, the 18-55 does have the advantage of having an aperture ring. Since you're new to Fuji and most of the lenses have aperture rings, you could use this lens to get used to that. It's a pleasure to use.

Unmarked aperture rings are useless. It's just a half-baked attempt at being retro with no ergonomic benefit. It is much faster to change apertures by flicking a finger wheel on the body as with any pro DSLR instead of having to use a second hand to rotate a laggy ring.

If on the other hand, the aperture settings are marked on the ring, there is a genuine benefit because Fuji's don't have display on the top deck to display the aperture without looking at the EVF or LCD.

Have to disagree. When you use a lot of primes that have aperture rings, your muscle memory is embedded to reach for the base of the leans to change aperture. I think it’s great to have unmarked aperture rings on variable zoom lenses, purely for this reason.

Hi, I'm with Jared Huntr this. Indeed, in the one Fuji system I have to use three different methods of changing aperture:

  • On primes, such as the 23/f2, I initially set aperture on the aperture ring - easy, tactile and satisfying and while I tend to set the aperture on the ring before putting the camera (either XT3 or XE£) to my eye I often adjust it with my eye to the VF.
  • On the 18-55, the same, but without a marked aperture ring, the only difference compared to a prime is that while I set the aperture using the ring on the lens I solely see the setting in the VF.
  • On lenses without an aperture ring, such as the 27/f2.8, I adjust the aperture with the rear command dial and view the setting in the VF.

Confusing? Not really, just a tad different depending on the lens in use, but it does take a moment to get the brain to recall which method one is using at any given time!

If you are after a 16-50 at kit price you had better move quickly as it is as far as I know it is as per your moniker and may keep a premium price secondhand as many prefer it to the replacement 15-45mm.

I like the 15-45mm as a compact wide angle option but not everyone can come to terms with the wire zoom.
