Some more images from Alaska Aug - Sept 2016
18

A selection of images from my wife and my trip to Alaska late August to mid-September 2016. All image are with the Em-1 and the 40-150 f2.8 PRO lens with and without the 1.4 TC. I also used the EE-1 dot sight for the puffin flying image and some of the images of bears chasing salmon.

This is my patch! An old sow chases a juvenile away from the river.

I want some too! A cub chases after its mother to get its share of salmon.

I am totally impressed!!!  I was there in late September, and I tip my hat to you --- my images do not hold a candle to yours.  Outstanding work!

Good job, Rob

One caveat -- speaking as a sometime editor, there are more bear shots than there need to be. The mother with salmon and offspring is the best bear shot, I think, and it is really good. but it would have been sufficient to back it up with just two more shots of the bears with splashing water.

I really like that first one of the whale's tail in its environment -- but then the second shot knocks it out. Not so much tail, but a much stronger environment.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the feedback and advice. I must admit it was difficult to decide which bear images to leave out. I was privileged to be amongst them in Lake Clark NP over 4 days.

In other words Geoffrey, he should just stick to the bear necessities!

Cheers

Thankyou. Where did you go? We started off with an Un-Cruise cruise out of Juneau, followed by 4 nights at Sliver Salmon Creek Lodge, followed by a trip up to Fairbanks to see the Northern lights.

It sounds like you had a great trip, and your pictures show it off well. I was on a big ship cruise -- my first ever -- with my 80 year old mother and a dozen or so of her friends.  It wouldn't have been my choice of how to travel, but I am fortunate that my mom is able and eager to travel. It was worth it to spend time with her, but I didn't get the photographic opportunities I would have liked.

I love all those shots!  The bears would be a little too close for me . . . but I love them.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. It was a true privilege to be there, especially with my wife,  and was one of my bucket list locations!

Some really fine shots! I like the multiple bear shots, especially the bear running and playing in the water. But then the others are pretty great too!
