My First Fuji : X-T20 , 23mm F2 WR

Hi Everyone,

I had made my mind to replace my canon 70D with a mirrorless after I tried 24/70 F4L and Sigma 18-35 F1.8 lenses on it. It was nearly 1,5kg and not a joy to carry around for a semi level photographer like me.

The question was : which mirrorless ? I have a 16 months old boy and he is my main reason to invest in photography. ( particularly for convincing my wife;-)) . Thats why fast focusing was an issue and sony A series had an advantage. However I also know the value of lenses for photography and everybody know the difference in lens quality between x mount and e mount.

I eliminated sony because of lacking lenses, olympus because of small sensor and xt1 - xt10 because of slow focusing performance. Finally I decided to wait xt20 instead of buying xt1 because my budget is around 1500-2000 USD and I want to invest more in glasses.

Finally I purchased my X-T20 on saturday. I must admit that it is a joy to use this small gem after canon 70D. My first lens choice is 23mm F2 and when these 2 come together they really suit very well to each other.

X-t10 is very responsive, un-suprisingly focusing very fast and silent both in stills and videos. Glass&Build quality is very very good in 23mm f2.

Below I am sharing some still examples from weekend. Please feel free to ask me anything and my question to you is about my next lens. I am planning to buy new 50mm f2, but I also ant to use legendary 35mm f1.4 what are your opinions ?

thx

Very nice pictures! Thanks for sharing them. But... where did you buy this cam? I am waiting longingly for it here in Germany but it won't show before Feb. 20th, some retailers announce it later still, somewhere in March

Greeting

Marek

Nice photos.  Can you please comment on the continuous AF, considering you have a toddler running around?  Thanks.

Great photos. Love the colour and look of some of those.

50mm will be a lot narrower in view as its 75mm full frame equivalent.

But that would make it quite a bit different to your 23. I have heard others say its good to separate your primes by double the focal length so 23 to 50 is around that and makes them distinctly different.

Greg.

Hi,

When I compare it with canon 70D , cAF is suprisingly good and silent. For example my son was running in one the pictures and Af performed well enough.

This is going to be my first Fuji as well:)

Please share your experience with this cam here. Are you happy with it as for now?

What do you like / don't like most?

Thanks for sharing your pictures. I'm planning on getting the X-T20 with the 23mm f/2, and the one big question I have has to do with the touch screen. How responsive is the touch to AF and shoot feature, say compared to just using the shutter release button (with the 23mm f/2)? TIA.

hi

I can certainly say that touch screen is as sensitive as shutter button. I am using this little gem for 4 days and i found touch screen very effective for focusing, shooting, etcI am also very happy with 23mm f2. It is joy to take this performance from such little body and lens.

I think my next lens will be 50mm f2.

thx

hi marek

if i have to complain about smth i'd complain about battery life, which is not below industry standards.

everything is very nice till now. I carry it in my jacket pocket 35mm f2 lens is performing very well.

I will add some 4k videos tomorrow.

I hope to see at least 1-2 seconds of 4k video with static image (no pan, no tilt), to evaluate the resolution. Thanks in advance!

Thank you Cameko,

can't wait to get my item...

How do you process your RAW-pictures, assuming you are shooting in RAW?

Edit: as I am new to Fuji, I have only just learned that there ist this Fuji-RAW-Converter -App, so perhaps here ist the solution/answer to my question?

Greetings

Very nice pictures and welcome to the Fuji club.

If you are willing to buy lenses to be able to shoot kids and having fast focus, do not buy the 35 1.4. The images are great and bokeh superb, but the autofocus is very slow, specially In low light, making at lot of noise and the front element is moving while focusing.

I would suggest you to take the newer F2 version which is very quiet and fast. You loose a stop of light tough...

The video capabilities seems to be not bad.

Image Stabilization was on or off? Manual focus would have been better on this kind of shooting (and a tripod, of course).

Thank you very much!

.......................................................................

This is the best frame which I could extract. With a little more fine tuning regarding settings, and a tripod, I think can get a better video. The colors are very good.

I am planning to invest a zhiyun crane-m for video shooting because i really like videos.

This one was recorded hand held with a 23mm f2 , so there is no IS.

hello

you are right, 35mm f1.4 will not be a good option. I think best choice will be new fuji 50mm f2...

It's a very good idea to use a gimbal stabilizer for video.

I was also on the verge of buying a Fuji X-T20 camera.

Images are too soft for a prime lens.  I would not get it.
