Help GX8 + oly 40-150pro anyone?

I have just got my gx8 from the repair shop and I think something else is now amis.

Srtup with oly 40-150 f2.8 pro attached using electronic burst shutter at medium speed, when the stabilisation  is switched ON the camera slows and clonks and vibrates between every shot.

Without stabilisation the firing action is far more rapid and smooth. Yet none of my Panasonic lenses misbehave like this and I can't remember the oly lens doing it before either.

Can anyone confirm whether their gx8 with 40-150 pro also slows and Clonks with the stabilisation switched on?

Thanks guys.

Can you hear a difference when zooming in from 40 to 150mm? Do you have other telephoto lenses to try this?  Sounds like the image stabilization system of your GX8 might be defective.

Yes I do have others and will do some double checks in good daylight with them.

Last night I wondered if our flickering LED lights had anything to do with it, but today the gx8 with the Olympus 40-150 pro once more after being fine for the first 4 or 5 shots, slowed and started clonking away again. Plus the images go soft.

Even with my Panasonic lenses the images are softer when the stabilisation is switched on!

Is no one else having this problem?

Can anyone please help with this test request - as my warranty is running out very soon?

Don't hesitate take it back with a full written report. I have the GX8 and it is happy with 3 x Olympus lenses (sadly not the one you have) plus the 100-400 and all operate perfectly even when at full HS and following birds with the PanaLeica at 400 - never miss a beat and always crystal clear subject to the rubbish photographer not concentrating.

Good luck.

My GX8 does not clone or slow or do anything else strange with the 40-150 pro lens.

Oh gosh, so now I am wondering is it the lens or the camera. Or both?

I'll do some more testing today with my other Olympus lenses as a comparison. I have tried 3x Panasonic lenses and none of them miss a beat on my GX8.

I will report back as I am fairly certain that this slowing down of the frame rate and increased sound level and vibration is affecting all non stabilized lenses, when fitted to my GX8 in the following circumstances:

* Electronic shutter on.

* Burst mode. Mid speed on.

* Stabilisation on (in camera).

As soon as the stabilisation is switched off, the camera speeds up and goes silent.

Note this does not happen with any Panasonic lenses!

pS. You may need to turn all camera sounds and beeps off to be aware of this happening.

I really hate this autocorrect stuff. Clone should have been clonk before autocorrect got involved. I know, I should have caught it but..

That's OK Nopix it happens to all of us. I knew what you meant. I think we'll all end up good at guessing autocorrect misspellings.

Hi.

Yes mine does.  Had to test it.

Hardly ever uses eshutter  - and IBIS is normally on.

But there is a distinct difference between the two settings.

Thank you so much for taking the time to test it. Well it looks like mine is probably 'normal' after all.

I wonder if it is done on purpose to ensure their own lenses appear superior!

Nope, I would definitely send this GX8 in for repair. I do not own the GX8 but on all my Pana and Oly bodies all my Pana and Oly lenses work interchangeably as they should. There is no softness or blurriness or slowing down noticable. I really don't understand what you are waiting for? The issue seems clear to me. Send your GX8 in for repair together with a full report.

Re: Help GX8 + oly 40-150pro anyone?

For the record I own [and have owned]:

GX7 (2x), E-PL5, [E-Pl3,] G3, [GF1 (3x)],

7-14/2.8, 9-18, [Pana 14-45 kit first version,] 14-45 PZ, 45-200 OIS,

12/2, 14/2.5, 15/1.7, 20/1.7, 25/1.4, 42.5/1.2, 45/1.8, 60/2.8

And as I said I have no issues with any of them on any body, except the known ones, e.g. missing auto correction of chromatic abberation of Pana lenses on Oly bodies.

I definitely would not accept a blurry, clonky or slowing down GX8. Especially not for the money you pay for such professional grade equipment, as which it was introduced and advertised by Panasonic. In my eyes Panasonic is a very trustworthy company, so give them the chance to make you a satisfied customer.

I have tested mine again and

There is no discernible difference between IS on/off and E-shutter on/off at medium burst speed. There is a difference is sound between e-shutter and mechanical shutter but no clunking, no vibration, no difference in focus speed (that I can detect).

It seems to me that something is definitely wrong with either your camera or lens.

Re: I have tested mine again and

Ok i just tried mine with electronic shutter and mechanical no perceivable difference other than the clunk of the mechanical shutter which will remind me to put it back to auto mode that shutter is loud ,you can feel a little (pulse/hum) from the battery grip when shooting which as some one pointed out is the ibis working ,but other than that ok a little bit different from my omd em1 .2  that i have been using the frame rate and intervals is really slow and obvious ,still the gx8 and 40-150mm is gorgeous combination .

I take it all your firmware is currently up to date just after the repair it may still be v1.0

Hope you can resolve your issue i would take it in to reputable store and get them evaluated try another gx8 body and a olympus 40-150mm swap with your lens camera combo .

To find out if it is body or lens issue .
