Panasonic lenses on Pen-F ?

Hi, I have some old M43 Panasonic lenses from previous cameras:

  • f/1.7 20mm (a prime I really like)
  • f/3.5-5.6 12-32mm (useful little travel pancake zoom)
  • f/4.0-5.6 45-150mm ASPH OIS (useful, but not essential)

I am thinking of getting an Olympus Pen-F, would these lenses work fully with it?

I have the Pen F and use the Panny 12-32 and small 35-100, as well as the 14,2.5 and the PanLeica 100-400 without hesitation. All work great.

I'd not be too concerned about it, unless someone can cite specific lenses that at problematic.

I use the 12-32mm quite a bit on my Pen-F, the 20mm once in a while. Both work great and make a very nice walk around kit.

No technical traps, so feel free to bring them along with the body swap. You'll have to decide which IS--lens or body--to use with the OIS lens(es). Generally, IBIS will be more effective until you get out to longer focal lengths.

Cheers,

Rick

Equivalence and diffraction-free since 2009.
You can be too; ask about our 12-step program.

I use several Panasonic lenses on Olympus bodies, including the 12-32 which I like well. I'm not aware of anyway to use manual focus with that lens on an Olympus body, since there is no MF ring. Some Panasonic lenses seem more prone to purple flare on Olympus bodies (7-14 f/4 seemed especially so) but you shouldn't have any real issues.

Yes, no problems, except that no manual focus available for the 12-32mm on Olympus. Some say the AF on the 20mm is a bit slow and not so good in low light - but that's maybe much the same with Panasonic bodies anyway.

The 45-150mm will work well, but if you decide to use the lens OIS then you need to leave IBIS on as the master switch and then turn On Lens IS Priority in the custom menus. The advantage of OIS is a constant stabilisation in live view without needing half press, the difference is no roll correction and only about 2 to 3 stops stabilisation with Mega OIS, if staying with IBIS only then the usual up to maybe 5 stops slower shutter speed is possible.

I have the 12-32mm and the 45-150mm and on Oly E-PL5 I use the OIS, but on Oly E-P5 I use only the IBIS.

With IBIS plus 0 sec anti-shock or using fully electronic shutter the results will be OK with the Pen-F, you will have a nice light and small kit to carry.

Regards..... Guy
