Powershot SX500IS Upgrade - Need suggestions.

My girlfriend has a Powershot SX500IS that she has enjoyed for awhile. Her primary complaint is that the zoom is SLOW and she misses shots. She is interested in getting a Canon camera that is no bigger than the SX500IS but with a manual ring zoom or much faster zoom.

She's looking at the T5i and M-series now. We don't want to spend <$700USD

Ideally we want small, fast, and manual zoom. Any suggestions?

Sadly I don't think you'll find all of that staying with Canon. I think the closet you'll get is an Olympus body with 14-150mm (28-300mm equivalent) lens. The mk1 version of that lens can be bought at a good price used. Or maybe a Nikon J5 with a 10-100mm lens

You may find this useful. I've selected the SX520 because they don't have a top view of the SX500. http://camerasize.com/compact/#449.26,635.608,565.97,559,ha,t
