Video focus square + AF on button
1

I have not posted here for a while but been a keen visitor. I'll probably be one of the last nx users as I have done the opposite to most nx users and invested more in the nx system.  I have added in the last 2 months the  following a second Nx1, 85mm 30mm and second nx500 ( which I need to resell) in top of my 2x S lens and 45mm. Anyway enough about me...

I'm trying to make the focus square on video mode smaller without any luck. Is that possible?

I'm having a few missed focus during video shoot due to the size of box. How are people nailing their focus on video mode?

Also, on AF button alternative selections I tried the various selections, AF START & LOCK, Metering & AF Start + Lock..etc. it probably me but I can't seem to find any of the different options of any use or help when shooting, any recommendations?

thanks in advance,

One more question how do you activate focus peaking in movie mode using Samsung lenses?

Unfortunately I can not answer this, it is a bit sad but not completely surprising that interest in NX has fallen off so quickly.  Six months ago you certainly would have gotten a prompt response.

I set my one to small for photos but as soon as video starts, it transforms to the big huge box.

I cannot remember when or by whom, but I was advised use manual focus and if terrible at it, then get less terrible at it!

I'd love to learn to manual focus better, or at least make the 'responsiveness' of focus ring even higher (it is currently set to high). Just feel like I have to keep rotating the focus ring a lot to go from close to far objects.

I wouldn't say it has fallen dramatically. I wish I could answer but I can't but pretty sure there are still some experienced NX people floating around.

I do not think it is possible, almost 100% on this one.

Sorry, I'm not much of a video shooter.

Also, on AF button alternative selections I tried the various selections, AF START & LOCK, Metering & AF Start + Lock..etc. it probably me but I can't seem to find any of the different options of any use or help when shooting, any recommendations?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this, what are you hoping to do by this?  AF lock is going to stop focus.  That will be like SAF, make sense?  It can be useful to pick your focus point and not let the focus wander or attempt refocus when shooting video.

Re: Video focus square + AF on button

I meant  apart from using the buttons for AF lock which is locks the focus. I haven't noticed that the other options didn't anything on the screen. Maybe it's me not fully understanding what the various option do.

For example I don't understand why you will you want to press the AF on button to start auto focus instead of the shutter button which is to me seems the logical setup.

Focus and recompose, if you want to change the metering. With half press you focus and recompose and the fully press for the shot, but in the default metering was locked when you half pressed, so it metered a different scene than you shot, you may or may not want this. Of course on NX1 you can separate focus and metering location with the touch interface, but there are time I find that too slow when I'm in a hurry to get a perched bird before it flies off. The idea is to separate the focus and the metering steps.

Secondly, seamless switching from SAF to CAF in practice.

But, NX1 has a wonky BBAF implementation so it doesn't really work out...

and there are more.  Basically, BBAF should stop focusing when released, but Samsung doesn't do that, which is a bit of an issue.  There is the focus lock option, which will let you do as I described for separating focus and metering.  Also, AF can't be removed from the shutter half press, so then it tries to focus again unless it  was locked....

For myself on the NX1 I live with the half press on the shutter because of these issues, whereas I use BBAF on all my DSLRs.
