Does the manual focus ring of a EF-S USM lens (17-55mm f/2.8 IS) need electricity to work?

Hi! A friend wants to adapt his EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM (Ultrasonic) lens on a GX1 (micro 4/3) body and we read that the simple adapters (that don't have electronics), won't work with most EF-S lenses since even the manual-focus ring needs power to operate!

Anybody who knows if this particular lens can manual focus without electricity?

Thank you!

Hi,

The USM on this lens is the ring type and will allow full manual focus without power.

It's the aperture you will have problems with as it's electronically driven so the lens will have to be used wide open.
