Wide lens advice

Hi,

I have a Canon 60D with a 50mm 1.4 lens.

I want to use it for taking overhead photos of food in my kitchen but I can’t get the camera far enough away without hitting our low ceiling.

Can anyone recommend a cheap wide lens that will help me fit everything in?

I’ve been looking at the: Canon EF-S 24mm f2.8.

Does anyone know if this lens would be wide enough? I’m hoping to take shoots about 2 feet above the food.

Thank you for any advice in advance.

Re: Wide lens advice

I'd suggest a 10-22 (or similar) zoom. It will be useful for other photography.

I just tested it for you with a 70D and EF-S 24 STM and 2 feet easily gets a large dinner-plate in the frame.

I use the 24 a lot for general indoor photography. I have the 10-18 as well, but the 24 is so much faster, for indoor light it's much nicer when not using a flash.

According to Canon Japan website here: the EF-s 24mm STM covers 50°35’ horizontal and 34°55’ vertical.

With some math, at 2 feet directly above your food, the 24mm lens can cover 1.88 x 1.25 feet.

24mm stm is a nice lens but the 10-18mm is pretty fantastic too.  Add it to your wish list...You'll be impressed with it.  Very sharp!  Must have for super wide.

Good advice here already. Have you considered setting the food on the floor on a tablecloth?
