Is the 24-70mm 2.8 II L Sharp?

My wife and I are a photography team and we have rented the 24-70mm 2.8 II a total of 3 times and the images are always blurry. They are no where near as sharp as any other lens we own or rent. Does anyone else have this issue? Or have we just rented the same bad lens 3 times?

No issues with mine. After 3 times I would say it is not the lens.

if you are a photographer surely....

you wouldn't need to ask this question.  you've read the reviews?

Yes, it is very sharp and especially at 24mm where it delivers prime like sharpness. Please remember to do MFA at both wide and tele on each camera body used.

What other lenses do you own and rent?   Are you using a fast enough shutter speed with no is?   Is it focusing in the correct spot?   It's possible you got the same bad one three times, but I suspect user error instead.  This lens is very very highly regarded.

Maybe that rental 24-70 f/2.8L II has been banged around and isn't as sharp as it should be. My 24-70 f/2.8L II is incredibly sharp and resistant to flare even wide open--more so than most fixed focal length lenses.

Since you are a photo team, I'm pretty sure you know camera handling and whatnot, so I'm figuring you are renting a bum lens.

Just thinking, you rented this lens three times, hard to believe that they are all wrong.

And the reviews about the 24-70 2.8 L II are quite clear, it is an amazing lens.

However, there are always combinations of body, lens, converter etc that don't seem to work. For instance, some lenses are not performing on crop cameras.

Anyone?

This is one of the sharpest canon lens out there. Just google it.  Maybe it's what's behind the lens that is making it blurry.  What camera do you have and did you ever try shooting it on a tripod.

I think the OP has left the building.

My 24-70 II is razor sharp right out of the box. Never bothered to MFA,.

The Mark I version was very good. It was a little soft at 70mm when I pixel-peeped but still very good.

My Mark II version is as sharp as my prime lenses. I have not found any blurriness at any focal length.

Only blurry when I ignore shutterspeed limitations when shooting indoors or at low light. I need to remind myself to bump up my ISO. A grainy picture is better than a motion blurred one. It is flawless outdoors in good light or on a tripod.
