17.6mm F/2? Such thing doesn't exist, right?

I've had M10 with 22mm F/2 for couple of months now and I really love it. My only wish was that it was a little wider. If it was, it would be a such an amazing street photography lens - wide, but at the same time enabling some shallow depth of field even when photographing people.

Well, I did some research and came up with a solution. I attached Olympus WCON-08x wide angle converted on Canon 22mm f/2. I wanted to build this quick and dirty for a trip in few days so adjusted the wider angle converter distance with a tomato paste can (!) and few conversion rings and the WCON-08X is held together by rubber bands mounted on metal strings punched through the WCON-08X lens caps. I cut holes in them obviously to let light through.

I also own Stulys 1 so essentially this is a free hack job for me as I will be using the WCON-08X on my Stulys 1 as well.

Quick and dirty - and one days I'll make it sturdier and nicer looking for sure - but works for now. This was a fun little contraption to buildĀ

I can post some sample photos taken with this baby if you'd like.

Corner sharpness suffers a little and there's naturally some distortion as well but I find the quality usable.

Re: Canon M10 with 17.6mm F/2

I've tried something similar quite a while ago. I used the Raynox DCR 7900ZD lens 0.79X on the EFM11-22mm & M3. My set up & photos. 11mm X 0.79 = 8.69mm X 1.6 = 13.9mm

M3 [11-22mm] & Raynox 0.79   @ 11mm = 8.69mm X 1.6 = 13.9mm @ 3" from lens

M3 [11-22mm] @ 11mm  X 1.6 = 17.6mm  3'' from lens

That combo gives you very interesting almost fish eye to wide angle zoom range..!

Your system looks much neater than mine. Fortunately, I received a conversion ring in the mail today that allows me to firmly mount my WCON to 22mm f/2 instead of using the odd looking rubber band system.

Canon M series doesn't have the best lens selection, but you can always think outside the box and do something like what we did.

If I had unlimited funds, I'd just get Fuji XPro2 + Fujinon 16mm f/1.4 but that'd cost around $3,000.

I paid around $450 total for my M10 + 22mm f/2 + WCON-08x

I'm most probably putting too much weight on my 22mm f/2 but I only paid $117 for it I'm willing to take the risk.
