Canon G12 not turn on/ weird horizontal line in photos

Hello everyone, I am newbie in camera topic. Please forgive if you see typos in my text. The issue started when suddenly the camera didn't turn on time to time without any reason. Took it to Canon Canada and they told me that the parts are not available and offered G16 instead which I refused. I received it. I start turning on , but when I'm zooming in and out it make a weird noise and the there are hundreds of very thin horizontal line in pictures. Attached is one of them.

Also, I noticed when I zone in and out couple time the camera works fine the pictures are perfect. Is it shutter problem and cleaning could fix it?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum...

Very thin horizontal lines in pictures are normally a sign of sensor failure.

A good option for you would be the G16 as the G12 is fairly dated now and the G16 has had good reviews!

I agree, sensor failure. It is only a matter of time before the camera kicks the bucket. It would not be worth repairing, so my suggestion would be finding a used g12 for a good price if that is the model you prefer.
