E-M1 MK II passed the first test
24

Been really cold here so haven't had much chance to get out shooting. It did "warm up" to -19C yesterday so took the dogs to the park in the small snow storm. Walked around for a couple of hours and the only thing that froze up was my fingers! The MKII and the 40-150 never missed a beat. I do need to play with the tracking a bit (tight/loose) but it was too cold to do that. Other than that, no surprises... the camera was covered in snow and after 2hrs of -19, I still had 60% battery left (never kept it warm in my pocket or under my jacket). Anyway, here are a few shots... Raw and processed with LR/PS CC

My wife and I both love that first photo!  Those are two very happy dogs, nothing like a frollick in the snow to make it a perfect day for them.  If only people were so easy to please!

Have a very happy New Year and wishing you many more great photos with your E-M1 II.

What great, fun pics. My wife and I have had golden retrievers for years, and some of my favorite memories and shots are of them running in the snow.

I would love to hear more about how the II does focusing on running dogs. That is a challenge for most systems.

Great shots of your dogs.  For those of us still learning to use the E-M1 Mark II, any details of setting you used are much appreciated.

Love that first photo.  That is one happy dog.  Black dog and white snow.  The definition of high dynamic range.

Great photos ... took my E-M1 MKII out in snowstorms and cold many times in the last week without any issues.

Did the dogs complain about the noise or the DR because it was Olympus? Maybe the small sensor? Did they ask if you were using a Cannon or Nikon first?

No but I did get into an argument with them about equivalence

Well, still learning myself as well. I set it all up before heading out as I knew it was going to be too cold to start fiddling in the field.

I set it Aperture priority, Continuous low (mechanical), AF-C with tracking (left the tight/loose at default) and 5 point. Made sure the AF was on the dog and it tracked quite well. There were several times when it would focus on the dog's body/tail so I just set a smaller aperture to keep more in focus.

Lots to learn and for me, the dogs are a perfect way to play with AF-C.

Re: E-M1 MK II passed the first test

Thanks for all the feedback folks!

I'm figuring this is one camera that's going to take a bit of effort to get dialed in, however from my initial use, it's going to be well worth it!

Happy New Year all
