Deep Space Astronomy with a 650D
1

Started using my 700D about 18 months ago in place of the eyepieces in a fast f/5 telescope (Bad disks in neck and back mean I can't bend). Was so successful I don't use eyepieces anymore ... just cameras. I now have a modified 650D (IR filter removed to allow more hydrogen nebulosity to come through to the images).

I'm not interested in wide field Milky Way shots, nor nightscapes, but I post this in case one of you who does is interested in applying the techniques and software I use to that. I imagine it could be quite beneficial for that task.

So, here's a link below to a live 30 minute desktop HD video capture I took the other night. 10 or so deep sky astro objects viewed/processed live out in the field while the telescope is actually pointing at the target. Just remember I'm not aiming for NASA photo of the day ... my aim is to observe the Heavens while out in the field at night ... ie simply replacing the eyepiece with the camera and view on a laptop. The Canon's do wonderfully well in this regard.

ps there's a rather embarrassing sound about 7 minutes in which was the insect repellent bottles pump dispenser thing! Honest!

Anyway, If you darken your room and watch in full screen mode, or on your widescreen TV, it really is something to see these objects in almost real-time (IMO).
