Metz MZ 54-3 not fully working with EOS 450D. Can you help please?

My son-in-law has an EOS 450D and wanted a more powerful and versatile flash than the built in one. As it happened I had an almost mint Metz 54MZ-3 surplus to requirements and we tried to marry them up.

The Metz fired but the some of the adjustable parameters on the screen on the 54MZ-3 didn’t respond to the camera:

1. The ISO setting was absent on the flash and

2. The focal length and aperture settings were fixed and did not change when they were altered on the camera.

However, off the camera everything on the flash’s screen worked as it should which seems to suggest that the camera and flash were not communicating. Would you agree and, if so, can you suggest what might be done to make the two communicate with each other please?

Many thanks

Phil

PS the Metz has the SCA3102 foot fitted and the software has been updated to give "ETTL". Having said that, when I was using it on my 5D2 I used it in Auto as I couldn't seem to get the ETTL to work satisfactorily.

PPS Apologies! I originally posted this in error in the 7D-80D forum

Thanks very much! I've now had a reply from Metz UK and they will upgrade the foot to 5M which they say will do the trick - at a cosr of ca. £28.

If it works it will be worth it as it was great on my 5D & 5D2.
