Samsung 50-150mm

Mental how much these lenses are still going for. On eBay nothing less than £1100. Am not actively looking to buy one - only if a bargain came up. I have owned it and sold due to lack of use, but it was an incredible lens - could be better at 150mm tho.

Same with the 16-50mm s lens. Must be due to low availability, I can't see the prices coming down anytime soon.

Prices will go down when there will be much better cameras than NX1 and NX500. Then it will be tricky to balance performance  per price per longevity of the system. In a year that the 50-150 will be -relatively- cheap, maybe won't worth the 500euros one will need to acquire it. I would prefer one soonish for 800-900euros, than later for cheaper!

I do wait for an opportunity 50-150 as they must be really excellent lenses. I do too not using tele zooms much but for the right price I would certainly consider buying one.

They seem to be much less than the 16-50 S lenses too.

I noticed the weird dearth of Samsung stuff for sale too when I was getting ready to sell my Samsung gear last week. I guess it's because most of the stores have sold out their inventory now. There aren't many third party sellers on Amazon with any inventory now. Last year there was this sense that stores were trying to sell their stock without flooding the market or depressing prices. Now there doesn't seem to be much left and sellers don't seem to be in a rush.

Meanwhile, for buyers, the word is out that there are NX hacks and that Samsung has a good system, even if it is discontinued.

Re: Samsung 50-150mm

Yes indeed it is a shame they are so hard to find. Some South Korean seller in Ebay sells them for 1699 USD.... + p&p and customs  which is nuts.

Let me know guys if you manage to get them anywhere for a reasonable price. I'm also desperate to get it as I own the 16-50mm which is already "waouw".

What do you think my NX1 and its 16-50mm prime lens could sell for? it's in mint condition with its original packagings?

I bought mine new, a year ago, and the S lens recently for new, and I paid 1500euros more or less, so I wouldn't expect to pay more for a used system right now (I have already a year of use, and the system is a year older right now with no future really).

The performance is still great (best camera+lens combo right now for the price), but I wouldn't invest more than 1500euros for used, right now, when GX/G-85/80 are so cheap right now, and the GH5 will be relatively cheap in a couple of years (we have to wait to see for that) and a a7000 is imminent (ofcourse you never know with Sony)

a lot of people have complained about the fast A6500 release, but it actually came as scheduled in a Sony 2 year cycle. It was the A6300 that was delayed, and this gave the impression of two quick releases.

Due to the sense of panic and with stores dumping inventory a year ago during the slow string of Samsung announcements, and the lack of supply now, I don't feel like prices have moved much since the big drop last year. If you know where to find the buyers, you can still get a decent price. I was pretty amazed at how fast my Samsung gear sold, it has taken me longer to sell gear from other manufacturers.

It helps that Olympus released a camera with a hefty price tag, a Sony version of the S lenses costs a pretty penny, and Canon mirrorless still only does 1080.

It seems that Sansung sold us a 50-135 lens as 50-150, doesn't it?

My opinion about the a6xxx situation is that most of the people got the a6300 after a long long wait of rumors and speculation, as they were expecting it to be THE Sony APS-C for the next couple of years, and suddenly, 7 months later, there is a better version.

I know people that bought the a6300 weeks before the a6500 announcement, and for a whooping 1500euros (body only). One friend gave his 6D+24-105mm+money for his a6300+18-135. a6300 was unnecessary.

There aren't any "Sony version of the S lenses".

I just mean the FE 24-70 f/2.8 as the closest Sony zoom, but for that you could buy a whole used NX1 and 16-50 S

Exactly, Samsung was building an apsc 'pro level' system. Sony is not, being focused on ff.

The only alternative is fuji and they haven't reached the same level of nx1, even at a higher price.

But Sony is still making pro level system in FF though right? I keep hearing/reading that more and more pros are now switching to Sony FF (A7Rii) for professional photography.

And if a pro had to choose between APSC pro level system and FF pro level system with everything being equal, I'm pretty sure FF would be the preferred choice.

Why? And if among two things, everything is equal, then they are the same!

*IF* everything else being equal as in whatever advantages provided by APSC (cost, smaller form factor than DSLR, faster AF, faster continous burst) is matched by the FF counterpart, THEN why would they choose FF over APSC.

Haha good point

There is an expression here "if my grand mom had wheels, she would be a skate board"!!

With everything equal, why not a medium format sensor then?!

It is a bit pointless, but do not forget that Cinema S35 is closer to APS-C than any other photographic format, and that worked really well for a lot of decades of cinema!

Anyway, full frame cameras are very cheap right now. You can find some amazing deals of 6D or A7ii, even the D750 has an amazing price for what it is.  There is Pentax too!

Re: Samsung 50-150mm

Well, yes. But, unfortunately, sony lenses costs 3x at least, for comparable quality to S lenses. And there is no way to have the dynamic performance of nx1 in a sony ff for now (I mean af speed and frames/sec).

Not to mention h.264 codec for video...simply...old.

No, it does not, and I'm puzzled regarding why you would think that.

Pentax SMC DA Series 50-135mm f/2.8 ED IF SDM

It is weather sealed, f/2.8, and they share that part of their range... but they're different optical designs and I see no reason to think the 50-150 is so short on the long end.  Seems like a 50-150 sold as as 50-150 to me.

The Pentax is 18 elements in 14 groups, the Samsung is 20 elements in 13 groups.  Front filter thread in the Pentax is 67mm and is 72mm on the Samsung.   Etc.......

Sounds like we had the exact same line of thought. I was hoping to get a decent fast (both in terms of aperture and AF) telephoto lens to replace the 50-200mm that I bought. The only choice is the 50-150 S which is insanely priced. So, I decided there's nothing more for it than to just jump ship. It's more affordable for me to go the route of selling my kit and jumping back over to Canon just so that I can get a competent tele lens (like the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8) that will serve me for a reasonable price.

My NX1 kit is currently on ebay *sigh*: http://www.ebay.com/itm/262778813991?

Oh and I'm selling it with the apparently very coveted Metz 44 AF-2, which I got from Amazon.de early in its life cycle. Sorry to the people who want me to sell it by its lonesome (I've already gotten some messages on ebay about splitting it up).

A short and sweet, but ultimate letdown of an experience with Samsung.

the $1,100 Samsung 50-150mm is the supposed equivalent of the ($2,800 Nikon) 70-200 f/2.8 in FF, doesn't she?
