Some portraits with Zuiko 75mm f/1.8 and Pen-F
34

The sitters were undisciplined, a bit neurotic, behaved unpredictably and didn´t show much respect to my artistic endeavours. But with some patience and luck I managed to get few decent shots. These photographs were taken on two different days so the light is different in 2 shots.

I´m glad I had Zuiko 75mm f1.8 with me. First I tried with Zuiko 12-40 f2.8, but 40mm was too short, sharpness suffers quite a bit after 35mm, bokeh wasn´t nice and f2.8 was a tad too slow on the second day when it was foggy. These are all shot f1.8-2.0 and ISO 400 or 500.

The macaques in Wulingyuan (Hunan) are wild but know the places and routes where the tourists swarm and gather there in hope of getting some food or a chance to steal it.

Pekka.

PS. I suppose these are macaques but I am not sure. They looked a bit different from those

Tibetan macaques that I have met on my visits to Emeishan in Sichuan.

Those are great!  I am not  a monkey fan (you know what they throw at humans...), but you certainly made them look their simian best!

Yes, it's a wonderful lens. I don't use it often enough but every time I do I'm amazed by the results.

Very good set. #3 does well showing the 75's reason for being.

Cheers,

Rick

Nice!

Was it the same monkey for all the 4 shots(3rd one foreground)?  I see slightly better contrast in the first pic.

Monkey on the 1st and 2nd shot is the same. I post-processed the first picture on different way than the second so the difference in contrast comes from that.

Beautiful work Pekka. All the shots are wonderful and that lens is certainly very capable in your hands.

Really lovely photos.  I notice you have both an EM5i, and a Pen F.  Do you find the Pen F to be a significant upgrade from your EM5? I ask as GAS has set in, and I'm pondering whether to buy a Pen F, to replace my EM5i. Thanks for your time.

Thanks! My E-M5 started to show all kinds of small issues after 3 years of heavy use and that was my main reasonably for buying Pen-F. And I wanted something with new sensor so Pen-F was a logical choice. If compared with E-M5 Mk1 I have to say that Pen-F is a little better in every aspect. I don't miss anything except weather sealing.

I went from EM-5 to the PenF and yes it is better. I really like skin tones better. The view finder is much easier to manually focus. I do miss the weather sealing but the buttons are easier to use and feel much better.
