Re: And after all this, is anyone actually happy? (n/t)

Surprisingly, yes?

I have the kit that works for me, now.....

Interesting list

Of course, everyone's list would be different, based on their own shooting style and subject preferences. Your own list probably makes perfect sense for you.

Here is what my list would look like, assuming I grew weary of having so many cameras and lenses:

Winners:

  • Camera: E-M1 (someday could be a used E-M1 III)
  • Natural light: 17mm f/ 1.8
  • Portrait: 45mm f/1.8, 75mm f/1.8
  • General: 12-40 f2.8
  • Wildlife: 75-300mm II

Losers:

  • Camera: E-M5, GM1
  • Primes: 14mm f/2.5, 25mm f/1.8.
  • General: 12-32mm pancake, 14-42mm R, 12-50mm
  • Wildlife: 35-100mm f/4-5.6, 40-150mm R

But I plan to keep it all.

I plan to keep it all because if I sold all the losers, I couldn't get very much money for them. Perhaps $1,000 in total. And having them means I have some extra capibilities and redundancies, even if they are very rarely used.

Having three bodies and twelve lenses isn't as great a burden as you might think. You don't need to carry them all with you. But I will concede that your slimmed down kit makes an awful lot of sense.

Here is most of it. The 12-40mm PRO was recently acquired, so it isn't in the family portrait.

Mate thats way too much kit to have around. The best advice is to sell all the unloved stuff and take a trip and get some lifetime memories.

Liken it to a long term, very reasonable rental fee.

Lifetime memories are planned for 2017, although 2016 was a year to remember for certain.

Re: And after all this, is anyone actually happy? (n/t)

The couple of hours it took to buy and sell some lenses, e.g., rent them long term, is a small fraction of the sum of my happiness within photography, let alone in the other 95% of my life.

Re: Have you already sold your lenses?

You're getting rid of a lot. Have you sold them already? Or will you be selling on a forum site (fredmiranda, dpreview), ebay, or a used reseller (KEH, UsedPhotPro)?

The Nocticron, Summilux, 12-32, 30 3.5, and 100-300 II are all that remain from the "losers" list (I know, hardly losers).

I use FM or eBay and price aggressively low.  I'd rather sell it all for 5% less on the same day, than wait for the kit to sell randomly for 5% more over a month.

The 100-300 II is actually tempting to keep because of wildlife overseas, but I don't really travel for wildlife, more for pleasure.  The rest can go to their new homes peacefully, without jealousy

You keep mentioning your 100-300 II as if such a thing exists.

I would prefer categories other than "winners" and "losers".

Word choice, like lens choice, is a personal preference

Yes, your word choice and your camera/lens choice are different from mine.

My next lens will be a Panasonic/Leica 100-400.  A little Christmas present to myself.
