Sharp a a razor

After reading dozens of reviews and looking at samples I knew what to expect. NOT! After only 24 hours the single word is SHARP! 100D gets a new life and the M3 sensor shines with this lens. Will update anytime later. Scoring only as impression.

Canon's 100mm f/2.8 macro is a great lens and I think 100mm is the "sweet spot" for general macro work. You should buy a lens hood, though, for the usual reasons.

I've used one for years and agree it is excellent. I do wish I had spent a few extra bucks for the IS version to make hand holding a bit easier, but otherwise the two lenses are pretty much equal optically.

There is a newer version. I had versions.

I have to ask. How do you get that onto the M3? You must be using a lens adapter?

Yes using the EF to efm adapter works really nice.

Thanks. I'm thinking about the M5. Since the lens is physically further from the camera does this change anything? I'm curios to how it can still focus properly.

It is focussing ok with adapter. Infinity and close focussing is no problem. The real gripe I have with the M3 and (after playing with one for an hour in shop) the m5 is the unacceptable AF speed . In 2011 it would be ok for a MILC, but in 2016 it's NOT!

BTW I was astonished about IQ of the 15-45 efm. In a bad way. At closer range (under 1m) IQ is mediocre. Only at around F8 it Gets a bit better. I tried a second one in shop, but it was the same. My efs 10-18, 18 -135 usm and my ef 100 usm macro and 50 stm were very sharp.

BTW I'm using fill flash a lot and have extensively used it on all kind of camera's . The M-line so far is mediocre in fill flash. Quite a surprise to me because all the canon DSLR's I had/have starting with the 20D are/were very good and reliable. Currently I'm using nissins (I40 and I60) on Fuji (X30), Canon (100D and 80D) and Sony gear (hx50). The 100D and 80D are superior to all I used before. Including the Nikon D7000. Only the Fuji X30 works as good in fill flash. Wireless flash with nissins works perfect even with the 100D. The nissin i40 needs some small piece of tape to prevent the exposure compensation dial from turning unwanted. From me it gets a 10/10 rating even with this minor gripe.

BTW my M3 is going back due to unacceptable AF speed, no more M for me  See my other post in the Canon eos M thread.
