LG Volt in balsam forest

Forgot to grab a camera for this short hike through a balsam forest. Took a snap with my LG Volt that I use for hiking/GPS/topo maps. The phone has an 8MP BSI-CMOS on a 4.7" screen with Gorilla Glass. I keep a smartphone tripod adapter in my pack just in case.

Good shot, I've found my LGA5 has the same type of image quality. The darks are dark and the lights get blurry or hazy. Its almost like the lens has a smudge thus causing the blurriness in the upper left corner.. but the foreground looks very clear. granted the smart phone is not a true camera by any means, yet can be used as a quick shot with some image stability.

I think when one uses a smart phone as a camera, they need to allow the light to play off the subject matter and one would defiantly needs to find the right range or distance. I wonder if it would have made any difference to the image if you used a lens attachment.

Re: LG Volt in balsam forest

I'm not familiar with an LGA5, but if it has the same type camera, I think that's a good thing. Most smartphone cameras in this price range are not as good and it surprised me to discover LG put a BSI-CMOS in the Volt, even if it is a rather tiny sensor.

As long as you DON'T do any pixel-peeping the images aren't too bad and I think it handles colors pretty well. Most images probably could stand a little sharpening. I haven't done any macro shots or clear sunny day shots with it. I have thought of getting a lens attachment but can't seem to find one I would risk the money for. Or if it would make the current lens "work" any better.

Maybe in the future smartphone camera lens will be removable/replaceable.
