Fabulous pictures. Definitely a situation where having length is advantageous for photography and health.

Bear-rilliant!

These are great!

One holiday I have planned for the future is a long road trip east to west through Canada and in to Alaska.  Hopefully by the time I get round to it there's still some snow left.

Did you feel in danger at all?

Also, I love to shoot wildlife at the golden hours - is this possible with bears, or not (or ill-advised?)

Great pictures!

Hard to find anything to criticize, TBH. Lovely variety of shots and poses, must have taken you some time to get these.

The highlights on some of the shots are noticeably over-exposed. not sure if they can be recovered?

May be he was exposing for the bears?

Re: Grizzly Bear pics from recent trip to Alaska

Wow, very engaging shots going beyond typical wildlife images. I, for one, don't know whether fine-focusing would be on my mind with a grizzly galloping in my direction. At least they're well fed!

Also impressed you managed to travel with the mighty 300 SHG. Wish there were more copies in circulation because it has that special helping of Zuiko magic perhaps unmatched (and I'm saying that as a 300 Pro user).

I need to get up there.

Cheers,

Rick

I suggest that you look at some of  the bears in photos, the highlights are on the fur.

Agree about the 300 f2.8, that lens is a cut above the rest.
The 90-250 and 150 are no slouches either, but that 300.

I've wondered how the EM1 would handle the CAF target of a grizzly running towards me at full speed; it looks like it did a good job.

Fantastic Rob!

You really got some great keepers here. I love the nursing shot, as well as the 'Starting a fire' shot.

Silver Salmon Creek Lodge is just excellent -- glad you got to do it. I really wish I could get back there.

Excellent work!

My test would be with the griz running towards and me the other way, camera pointed behind me.

Cheers,

Rick

No, we were with an experienced guide the whole time.

Yes, you can and we did. We were out before sunup and after sundown, but not in the dark.

Great pictures!

Thanks

Re: Fantastic Rob!

We chose Silver Salmon Creek Lodge due to your and Kevin Sutton's photos! It was everything we imagined. We were very fortunate with the weather - only wet the first day or so of our 4 days.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. These were just a sample of the thousands of photos taken over the 4 days. It was hard to decide which ones to share!

Re: Grizzly Bear pics from recent trip to Alaska

Wow, so shooting grizzlies is a lot like shooting soccer (way too much raw material).

Cheers,

Rick
