Hasselblad ZForce Mod

Motorola's ZFforce Droid uses a new modular system. When I bought mine, I got the JBL sound booster and the battery pack mods free. I did get the Hasselblad mod, too. Couldn't resist. Although I have only begun to play with it, I have had an opportunity to use the professional mode which includes a variety of manual adjustments. I have used the ev controls more than any other so I thought I would show you a few early results with that feature.

An anthurium with no ev adjustment:

Now, with -1 ev:

A rose still growing outside in the warm Tulsa fall.  A negative adjustment:

Bokeh does not look half bad for a cell phone.

No adjustment.  Just a normal auto shot:

These are all jpegs.  The camera now includes raw capture but I have yet to work with that. There is only so much effort I can take with cell phone pics before it all seems counter-productive.

I'm a bit suspicious of the module idea . . .

What happens in 18 months when they want me to upgrade to a new smartphone? Yes, I've heard they've made some promises about forward compatibility, but how long will that last?

Shoot! With the rate of technological change, how long CAN something like that last?

I would feel much more confident in the modular concept if there was an industry standards group, or an m43s like consortium that controlled this sort of thing.  I'm pretty sure my next phone will not get any modules purchased for it.

I am not so concerned about forward compatibility.  I did buy the camera module for about $250.  I bought an Olympus XZ-2 for a little more than that a couple of years ago.  I rarely use it and will no longer need it.  There is no option to upgrade it.  Even if and when new phones are made without the module capacity, this one will still work.  Phones can be maintained if and when they are upgraded.  So, worrying about the future, like two years from now, is not really a concern of mine.  Que sera!  I am enjoying the present.

Re: Hasselblad ZForce Mod

I just got a Z Force and will be putting it through its paces over the next few days. No Mods, yet, but this is on my short list. How do you find the Hassy camera performs compared to the built-in 21MP module resized down? Obviously the range won't be comparable, but the core image quality, lens results, etc... ?

Also, now that you have had it for a while, do you still find you use it, or has it become largely shelfware?
