Samsung NX2000 lens choices

Hiya everyone,

I'm a teen from uk, that's started to take an interest in photography.  I'm about to purchase a used Samsung NX2000 camera, but it doesn't come with any lenses.

  1. What type of lens can this camera fit?  I mean can I use generic ones or different brand versions?
  2. Also are lens normally very expensive for samsung compared to other brands?

Just to let you know, I'm not too fussed about branded lenses, so long as they can do a good quality job.  I am after lenses which can take photos with shallow depth of field and bokeh effects.

Thank you

try to find a 30mm from Samsung to start with, you should find it under 150£. It has bokeh, is cheap and a very usable focal lenght

Look at the top of this page, Lenses, Samsung

Watch out, there are some for the Samsung Mini and they don't fit the NX cameras. You can see what is available and get an idea of the prices. However shop around, you may find better prices and gently used lenses for less than new.

I have the NX500 with the kit lens. I added the 16mm F2.4 and the 50-200mm telephoto.

I have an adapter that will allow me to use my Pentax 50mm F1.4 lens with the camera.

I would strongly advice you to go for a NX300 with a lens. It is much cheaper buying those two together.

Samsung system is dead, maybe you do not want to invest (even for a lens or cheap body) on a dead system.

m4/3 have some older, very good bodies, and a lot of used lenses, or if you want shallow depht of field you have to go for an older Nikon dSLR.

Another word of warning!

Doubt you'll now find any / many new Samsung lenses here in the UK these day.

If you're looking instead through secondhand listings hen do steer clear of any that were made for another Samsung camera range, their GX models (GX1, GX10, GX20 or similar). Prices are "what the market will bear", but seem to have picked up from the lows they reached in the first few months after Samsung withdrew from the camera business.

Adverts do usually point out that these are for "Samsung GX and Pentax Digital" - but as they have the Pentax lens/camera mount, rather than that of the NX series, they'll not fit onto your own camera!

Currently two examples of such lenses here....

http://www.lcegroup.co.uk/Secondhand-Search/?Order=Latest&View=Grid&SHMake=Samsung&SHModel=&SHType=&Location=&Results=48

(and their price for the 12/24, which is an NX lens, is pretty high - despite its usefulness!)

If you want autofocusing, I think you're more or stuck with Samsung's own lenses and Wex, who no longer carry the brand, have the old brochure - but it's a slow download, at some 40MB for 9 pages.

http://www.wexphotographic.com/webcontent/pdf/samsung/samsung-lens-guide.pdf

Otherwise, some 3rd parties did make cameras that will fit, plus there are adaptors for other lenses (although the supply of those is drying up now!), however with just about all of them you can expect to lose most/all of the usual range of automatic aperture, zooming and focusing features!

Re: Samsung NX2000 lens choices

I think the NX range is still worth buying into of you can find equipment at good prices and don't mind second hand.

I was quite late to the party (2014) but I've accumulated 7 or 8 lenses and 4 camera bodies, all but one of which have been second hand but at a great price.

I'm not aware of any third party lenses for the NX mount that autofocus, but there are a number that are manual focus lenses and of course adapters for older lenses from other mounts.  I have a Rokinon 12mm f2 in NX mount that is very easy to focus since anything about 4-5 paces away is in focus on the infinity setting, but unless you get one of the Samsungs with a viewfinder I would discourage you from going with manually focused lenses, it is more difficult to get critical focus while using the screen.

The other thing to mention is that Samsung lenses have always been a fantastic value, you can pick up the 30mm f2 or 45mm 1.8 for a fraction of what something similar from Sony would run you.  I have an NX300 and keep the 30mm f2 on it almost all the time.  For me this is a good combination of compact, good focal length, and good bokeh without needing to get right next to my subject.  I've had the 45mm but sold it to get the Rokinon I mentioned earlier, but have considered buying another because you can get them so cheaply and the image quality is very good.

While it does seem that the system is dead, there is still a lot of good equipment out there and you can get a good camera and some lenses together for not a lot of money and I think that still makes it worthwhile.

Re: Samsung NX2000 lens choices

Cyberlink PowerDirector considers 2k to be 2048 x 1080, 4k 4096 x 2160, and 4k UHD 3840 x 2160.

As I understand it, in the early days when 1280 x 720 video first appeared in digital cameras it was the vertical number that was used to describe the quality, about 70% of 1K. Later 1920 x 1080 came along and 1080 was called 1K.

Now we have more options and the horizontal number seems to be the number used. So if the TV is capable of producing 4096 it is called 4K and if it can produce 3840 it is called UHD.

The reason I create 4k videos is that I have a 4K Samsung TV and I have an HDMI cable from my computer plugged in to the TV so I can watch 4K videos on my TV.

I think you're posting this in the wrong place

Putting aside what's classed as 1k,2k etc I still don't get why you would record at 1080p and upscale to 4k,as the resulting video will not reassemble 4k - the extra resolution that 'proper' 4k delivers will not be present in your upscaled files.
