Yes, it does seem to indicate a pixel shift snafu, doesn't it?  Cindy

What other RAW editors do you suggest? The only one I use is ACR and PS. . .

Interesting, I use an old ACR 5.7, never saw this issue on the K-3 or K-1 for a combined total of nearly 75,000 photos (DNG only),

EDIT ADD: Well had i known it was a pixel shift photo as i've read further on then i suspect the movement wasn't accurately corrected for

F16 is a bit mushy on APS-C and 1/15th sec will most certainly allow for subject blur especially with leaves and water. I can't say I'm seeing moire, i see blurry leaves and some form of optical aberration in the reflection in the water.

EDIT ADD: ok I had a much closer look and i saw the scan line effect you're calling moire, I'm not convinced its moire, I think its how the RAW editor is dealing with high contrast highlight areas... please try another RAW editor and see if the same effect shows up.

Thank you!

You can separate but I only know how to do this with silkpix. Alternatively, take a pixel shift image and a non pixel shift image. I mean you are already on a tripod anyways so its no big deal. Good luck and very nice picture!

Re: Moire in Backlit Autumn Leaf Shot

Congrats Cynthia,

Thats the best autumn colours picture i have seen this year!

What you are seeing is indeed PS. You can also separate the files with DCU but you must download the latest version. You can also do in with the in-camera raw developer, at least you can with the K1.

At f/16, i think there is too much diffraction to get any benefit from PS.

But what a picture!!!

Thank you so much, Miles!  Do they have many deciduous trees in Greece?  I know a couple of English friends of mine have said that in the areas that they live, they don't get as vibrant displays as we do in New England (USA)--is that the case where you live, as well?  Cindy

Hi Cindy,

Most places don't really get much autumn colours. Athens is mostly surrounded by (scarce) fir tree forests, and where I live in Corfu we have many olive trees and cypress trees. They all stay green. The Aegean? We make fun of them - I think the tallest plant there is rosemary! But in mainland Greece, in the mountainous areas, we do get some spectacular displays (in Zagorochoria, Meteora, Rodopi...)  It's later in the year than in new England of course. Yesterday was a pretty OK day to go to the beach here, a bit chilly but not too bad!

Hmmm, maybe we should try to make a family weekend trip... if we manage to find enough time!
