EOS 300D Playback

Have a Canon EOS 300D with an issue.

Pushing the shutter allows the camera to take a picture which is clearly displayed on the LCD screen. After the image disappears, pushing the playback button results in a completely distorted, multi color banded and extremely grainy image bearing very little resemblance to the original picture.

Removing the CF card from the 300D and playing back on a Canon 20D results in a perfectly clear image on the 20D screen.

Reviewing images on the 300D taken using the 20D with a different CF card results in the distorted views.

It appears that the playback feature on the 300D will not reproduce pictures that are correctly written to a CF card.

Also, the red access light does not blink when the image is being transfered to the CF card.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Canon EOS 300D (EOS Digital Rebel / EOS Kiss Digital)

Re: EOS 300D Playback

Yep, sounds like the playback circuits are bugged up.  Probably  not worth fixing, if even possible on 13 yo digital camera.    Live with it if the pics are recorded ok, or replace it.

IMHO.

Re: EOS 300D Playback

Agreed. Probably not worth it monitarily. It's more the challange.

Kind of the same reason I take and restore an outdated technology 1930's AM tube radio when I can buy a modern set.

It's a sickness.

Was wondering if anyone else had encountered the same issue.

I suggest you use your 20D instead. a much better camera .

Thanks.

Re: EOS 300D Playback

I had the same problem some years ago with a PAS Canon A80. It was a known problem and Canon did say they could repair, however it was a good excuse to upgrade my PAS so did not bother. May be worth an email to Canon Technical department

Re: EOS 300D Playback

The 20D wasn't mine.

Called Canon and they had no idea.
