Canon EF 16-35mmL f/4 IS or Sigma 18-35 DC A?

Hi there,

I've got a Canon 70D and I'm looking for a ultra-wide to wide zoom lens to use for some astrophotography and landscape photography.

I'm currently using a crop sensor but once I can get a photography based job, I hop to upgrade to a FF body. This won't be for at least a year though.

Would the superior quality of the Sigma lens benefit me more short term and make it more worthwhile than the Canon lens, even though I won't be able to use it on a FF body? I have tried them both, and the Sigma is unbelievable in quality, and the f/1.8 makes it really useful for star trails and the such!

Cheers!

Freddy

I love the heck out of the 16-35 F/4L IS, especially for full frame. I've seen a few examples of people doing star trails with this lens, but a faster lens would really work better. We now have the option for the 16-35 f/2.8L III, but it costs over twice as much. The Sigma might be better for your needs.

The 16-35mm is an incredible lens, I've heard tons of great reviews on it.

But, you did mention that you are doing astrophotography, and the f1.8 aperture of the Sigma might be a benefit.
