Will you cancel your M5 pre-order after seeing the A6500?

Re: Will you cancel your M5 pre-order after seeing the A6500?

I'm in deep with Canon (T2i/70D/6D/7Dii/5Dsr/1DXii). I'm semi-deep with Sony NEX-5, a6000, a6300, A7Rii and a99ii pre-ordered.

I've pre-ordered the EOS M5 and that will not change with the a6500  announcement. Though the a6500 looks awesome there is still NO e-mount 400mm or greater native. I drew a line in the sand; until Sony can yield 400mm in e-mount no more e-mount purchases.

We also have Oly and the wonderful 300mm/F4; the GX8 and the wonderful PL 100-400mm. If Oly and Pana can do it where is Sony ??

Now a bit of irony. I'm purchasing the a99ii solely because I own a 70-400Gii. I want a Sony sensor to reach 400mm. Not just any Sony sensor but the one in the A7Rii I'm buying the M5 for the 400mm/5.6 and to have as backup to whatever Canon I'm carrying that day.

When Sony has an e-mount 100-400mm or 400mm then I'll buy the a7000

didnt pre-order M5 but if i did i would cancel it imediatly

the a6500 is more pricy but almost perfect mirrorless camera

its now has IBIS and touch focus and new user interface which the most things i wish to see on a6XXX series

it doesnt have alot of lens selection but still fare better than the  poor number of lenses on M mount

Isn't the A7r2 even more expensive but closer to perfection ?

4) after seeing what else will be out there now, and into the next year, I decided to preorder the M5.

Which is what i did today.

In reality the A6500 is a nice camera body. the lenses aren't that nice unless you go off brand to Zeiss or Sigma and/or stick with primes.

I'm a UWA zoom shooter for 70% of my shots or more.

There is nothing else out there that is even close to the M's capability in this regard for the same price or even close.

An A6500 is going to set me back around $3200 for the kit I would want with it. If they came out with the "fabled" A5200 that they were supposed to .. I may have been curious. however, Sony doesn't seem to be interested - which is why their unit marketshare keeps dropping.

the double pro kit from olympus that I would jump all over, isn't available in NA.. buying the PRO UWA and normal .. and body. again. over 3K.

Fuji. I'm intrigued, but most of their "good" lenses especially their UWA blows monkey snot in IR .. making it a deal breaker, and would still be around the 2700+ mark.

the M5? while i see supposed "purists" scorn the slow zooms, really are excellent, cheap and all wrapped up together provide a package that is around 1K less, and optically as good, and systematically as good or better.

and on top of that - I'll take canon ergonomics over any of them.

No, keeping the pre-order, but I might cancel my membership to this forum if things don't settle down here soon.

Congrats on your decision. There are always better options if you wait, but in the interim, you miss a lot of opportunities to capture great imagery.

Gotta agree 100% with what you say...thought I wouldn't pre-order this time, I did with the M3, but I'm getting persuaded by the well thought out arguments for. I'm also finding most of the arguments against the M5 to be pretty lacking. Maybe "whiny" is a more accurate description. (He said adjusting his flak jacket...;-))

So, if you don't mind sharing, where did you order, and did you get the 18-150 with it?

I preordered from BH this time. I know .. I SWORE I would never preorder again as well.  But I can try it out, and if i don't like it .. I can certainly return it.

After 2-3 weeks it will be sent to kolari .. he's waiting for it already

I presume we'll see more hands on and more testing between now and November 30th ship date, if not, I may cancel it.

I ordered with the 15-45 for a few reasons. One, I think I can white box that 18-150 cheaper after the fact, and if I get the M5, I want it sooner than later, and it seems like the 18-150 is shipping later for NA even though for Japan it's shipping on the same date.

I'm also going to give my M3 to a friend who's taking a photography course, she wants it.. so I'll then be able to choose what I want to keep the 18-55 or the 15-45 for a less conspicuous walkaround option.

I will say, this would probably be a no brainer for some if Sigma offered the DN series on the M mount.

Maybe when canon pushes themselves up to #2 in mirrorless, we'll see more interest in third party vendors.

but frankly, canon should be tossing some moolah at Sigma and getting them going on it.

Thanks for sharing that...I think my M3 is going to my wife with the 18-55, I'll keep the 15-45 on the M5.  Gotta decide what to do with the 7D MkII, I'm hoping the M5 will be close enough that I won't need both.  How's that for being optimistic.

That doesn't sound like a confident purchase at all.

Did I suggest it was?

my viewpoints on the M3 are well advertised. I have little faith in canon not doing something as equally moronic that won't come out until the camera is in people's hands.

I have resisted preordering the m5 for those reasons, but in reality, it's the better option even with those reservations, and unlike with the M3 - I can return it.

the big unanswered questions are USB tethering and also does AEB rely on shot to shot single shot speed (as it is on the M3) versus continuous shot to shot speed (as it is on every other camera), and is the sensor just an 80D with the same issues as the M3 sensor.

None of those questions will really be answered until it's in people's hands.

Any camera bought without hands-on experience is inherently not a confidence purchase.  Especially with one that isn't on the store shelves yet.

OK, Tonkotsu, I'll bite.  Where is the compatibility of the Sony A6500 with Canon EF and EFs lenses.  I've looked up and down the camera specs and features, and all I can find is "Sony E mount lenses" under lens compatibility.  Are you talking about third party adapters like Metabones?
