Thanks to Nikon's 100 year celebration to create such a Magic lens !! - 105mm f1.4E ED.

Luckily, I have been used it to shoot in my recent short family trip to hunter valley, Australia.

There are lots of words I want to share for this big lens (almost 1kg , but it's size and weight is just suit me perfectly~LOL).

It was so noticeably sharper when shot on my Nikon D800E that when I magnified the image, it was still sharp. To be honest, I used my nikon 85 1.4G before for a long time , so I can tell . Compared with it, the 105 1.4E is much sharper and gives you more details for your subject.

DoF is super narrow (3mm width) when you shoot at 1m from your subject. But it's very stable when your camera is in the continuous shooting mode. @ 1.4, it is still noticeably sharp and bokeh killer, but when you shoot from f1.8 to f2.0 with higher ISO(100 to 400 ISO) it was so amazing.

Auto focusing speed is fast, and not hard to control. However, it is a bit of slower than nikon 85 1.4G, for sure. (Much faster than Canon 85 1.2L ... ) And you need more back-up batteries to load if it is long session shooting.

I like to shoot kids, kids with fun 7 love. Here are some images taken form this lens I would like to share with you , hope you can love them. Thanks~

More photos will be added~

even the war on the 105 f1.4E ,  between "WOW" or "FAIL" lens , it's 90% about the photographer .

Great photos! This lens seems to be an ideal companion for the 58 1.4 and the 200 2.0.

Hats off to Nikon for the superb balance between sharpness and bokeh!

Beautiful, beautiful photos you will cherish for many, many years to come! Doesn't matter what lens you used. In 5 or 6 years, you'll probably won't remember what lens you used to take those pictures, but those lovely pictures will bring smiles to you and your wife every time you see them.

Thank U~ yes, I would totally agree it's 90% about the photographer, about how to enjoy your gears and taking photos. I probably would say every lens has its muse and character。。

Thanks~ hah good pick up and u nail the point! Nikon this time did a good balance between sharpness and bokeh! And they want the still photo to be 3D style.

105mm is a unique focusing distance lens, and I think it grabs both charming of 85mm and 135mm lens. A little of environment/story space for your subject (compare with 135mm) as well as more compression for your photos (compare with 85mm lens).

220 is the king , a heavy king hah.

Yes, 58G and 105E are good combination.

Fantastic photos, Derek. Great family photos full of lovely emotion and joy.

Just picked mine up yesterday but have only taken photos of a few seagulls and flowers etc. Stunning lens for sure.

Re: shots with AF-S Nikkor 105mm F1.4E ED

OK the optic's design is outstanding but a real SWM is missing.

This was note by Lens Rentals https://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2016/12/taking-apart-the-new-nikon-105mm-f1-4e-ed-af-s/

I have the 85mm/1.4g where I found the focus is accurate but slow, compare to the 200mm f/2.0 VRii.

Because of it's price, a real SWM would be need. And I will wait Nikon will do this update to buy it.

Really beautiful photos again !

Your initial posting of pictures in this thread was actually one of the reasons to why I bought this lens

Probably this lens will also make me buy a 58 1.4G also, even though I used to be perfectly happy with my 50 1.8G in that focal length :). I'm happy though that the 58 can be found used, since these lenses are definately not cheap and I'm just an happy grandpa taking candid shoots of my grandchild and relatives
