So if you get dirt on the sensor is there a way of getting to it, to clean it

Hmmm, well when I had such a dust speckle in my S100, shaking it for a moment with force took care of the problem. Otherwise, you'll have to send it to Canon.

Re: Dirty Sensor on G5X

There are four spots in total and shaking did not help. Seems silly to have a camera thats not sealed but unable to be cleaned.

Yeah, makes you want to switch back to film, every time you wind you get a clean new sensor.

Seriously, you get dust and lint when you put it in your pocket, or salt mist near the sea.  See my previous posts if you care to read more.

Happened twice with my G7, sent it back to Canon.  It was under warranty the first time,  2nd time, out of warranty, but has never happened since. Has not happened with my G15, but for some reason, if I'm not careful I get a fingerprint on my lens, Only with the G15 - go figure.

Hi mate you could try this, turn the camera on zoom the lens out all the way and place the end of your vacuum hose over the lens.

This is the important part only use low suction, your only moving dust not pulling the lens off.

I have done this with good results over the years, just make sure that you use low suction.

If you do pull the lens out of the camera I never wrote this

Regards.

Stephen.

Quite typical with today's point and shoot cameras. Every time you extend or retract the lens air is pumped in and out of the camera.  You image looks like you might have a little lubricant splattered on your sensor.  Sometimes the cost to clean can exceed the worth of the hardware.

Remember that to the lawyers cruising all around us nowadays you are nothing but a tasty snack.

I hope these manufacturers can sort out this sensor dirt issues soon or confirm they are not an issue. Has anyone seen any sort of statement anywhere from any of the makers on sensor dust? if it is a situation for just 5% of users over a space of 2 years I could live with it but I am completely spooked on getting a fixed lens camera at present.

I am not saying it is a problem as I have no real idea what the situation is but caution seems the prudent action on the moment.

Why can't they make so you can unscrew the lens to get to the sensor .

Holy crap, I can not believe it but this worked a treat dust is now gone.  Now I am not saying you should try this as you could damage your camera . I was willing to take the risk and was very careful.

Thank you Stephen !!!!!!

I created this account to say you: THANK YOU!
Your solution helped me. I had black dot on my Canon S200. I used vacuum cleaner around the lens and the dot disappeared
Thank you!!!

Now do yourself a favor, and get a Kaiser 58 mm lens cap to cover the lens when not shooting or have it in a pocket or bag - or even in dusty wind conditions.
It's a good snug fit, is plastic so it won't mark the camera, and the camera will shut down without harm if you forget to take it off when  you turn the G5X on.
I put one on as soon as I got my 5X .

If it's the G5X Mark II then it is the 56mm, not 58mm. I've got both and the 58mm is too big.
