Help ! G7 Problem in the Philippines. Lens attachment failed.

Hi all

Need some help !

I'm in deep darkest Philippines and i got the error message ' Lens attachment failed. Please make sure the lens is attached correctly'.

Ive done the following :

reset the camera.

installed latest firmware.

Cleaned the contacts.

Changed battery.

Changed SD card.

Removed the lens and put the lens cover on. The camera menu barely functions and any use is very, very sluggish. I cant see any image through the viewfinder or the screen!

I was literally using the cam for 5 minutes didnt change any lenses or do anything unusual.

Hope some wise heads can offer some advice. Did a search online and cant see any quick fixes.

Cheers,

Richard

Do you have a second battery?  If so, switch to that battery and see if it helps.  Good luck.

It appears that you have had some problems with play back too.  Have you called the Tech line at Panasonic Repair?  You may want to check the body.

Just to be clear, is the lens now back on the camera? No lens, no image. Lens on with cap on, no image!

Is there a possibility of high humidity and condensation, moving from aircon environment to outside?  If so, try drying out in warm/dry location. If no desiccant available then try dry rice - put rice in tray, then stand camera on it with small piece of polythene between camera and rice.

I really appreciate all the input and advice. thanks so much. lens back on. in fact several lenses.  without lens cap. still the same. will try and take to a service provider here but not hoping for too much.

Just to complete on the thread in case someone else has the same problem.

Left the camera alone for 2 weeks - surprise surprise came back on and is currently functioning as it should do !

Fingers crossed it stays this way.

Re: Help ! G7 Problem in the Philippines. Lens attachment failed.

Just experienced the same problem with my GM 1 on vacation in Canada. After reading other folks attempts at repair, usually ending with a service center saying the problem was too expensive to repair, I decided I had nothing to lose. I gently scraped both lens and camera contacts with my pocket knife blade and reattached the lens.

Problem solved.

I have just had this problem for the first time with my GX80. I hadn't changed lenses. The camera's IS made a nasty noise and nothing worked.
Turning on and off, removing/re-attaching lens, and removing and re-fitting battery didn't help.
Powering up with no lens fitted and re-fitting lens while it was powered up did make it work again.

Is my camera on the way out?

Chances are it’s the lens, not the camera. I have a G80. The same thing has happened with my rather expensive penny Leica 12-60. Obviously I’m not a happy bunny.
I know the camera is ok, as other lenses work fine. But on another body the lens does the same. Like the IS is going crazy, then the error message.

Interestingly this was a problem I had only once. I was using my M.Zuiko 45/1.8, and it had been on the camera at least a couple of hours. I remember that in the weeks leading up to this particular evening's use, I had stored the camera with a dumb adapter and manual lens on it.
My best guess for my own problem (described above) was that the camera's contacts were not quite "springy" enough to give consistent contact with my AF lens after weeks without any lens contacts pressing against them. Since this happened I have always stored the camera with an AF lens on it. It could be a coincidence that the problem didn't repeat itself, but it might not be...
