In case anyone isn't sure - EF 24-105 f/3.5-5.6 IS STM

Just received my EF 24-105 f/3.5-5.6 IS STM today (ordered through Canon Price Watch's "Street Price" program and received an unopened, Canon USA warrantied product for $400 shipped - http://www.canonpricewatch.com/product/05539/Canon-EF-24-105mm-f3.5-5.6-IS-STM-price.html) and I tested the AF sound on my 5D Mark IV in OVF, live view, and video, and it's silent - like the EF-S zoom lenses with STM are.  It does NOT make the buzzy sound that the EF 40mm f/2.8 pancake and EF 50mm f/1.8 STM make.

So, if anyone is like me and looking for a zoom lens for video use on their 5D Mark IV and they want to utilize autofocus and not worry about a buzzing noise, this is the lens to get - and at $200 off MAP, it's a great deal, IMO.  Oh... it obviously focuses smoothly too.  I know that's obvious, but I wanted to state it just in case someone doesn't know.

Hope this helps!  Any questions, feel free to ask!

The longer a thread, the more likely that someone mentions Henri Cartier-Bresson or Ansel Adams.

that sounds like an odd f stop compared to f4.0 USM i have i think the new f4.0 II would be real interesting to see. if the new f4.0 II is anything like 24-70 f2.8 II IQ, it would be hard to resist not getting it. i usually buy my lenses because of IQ when i have the fund available, not because of "good deal" but YMMD.

It's the same f stop that most variable aperture standard zoom kit lenses start at (see the EF-S kit lenses).  As for the reason to purchase the "good deal" was simply a bonus.  I was going to buy the lens anyway because I wanted to a lens which could be used for occasional video and there are literally ZERO other FF zoom lenses that cover the standard range and offer smooth, silent focusing for video applications.  So honestly, unless IQ was horrid (it's not, it's about on par with the EF 24-105 f/4L IS at similar apertures - at least in the center of the frame), it's a no-brainer.

Thanks for that. Good to know. Imagine I will probably pick one up somewhere along the line for the reasons you mention.
