NX1000 produces too many blurry photos?

We have a Samsung NX1000.I use it in Smart mode and even when I use flash, it produces too many blurry photos, especially in indoor photos. For example, today I used it to take my pictures, putting the camera on table and using timer function of Nx1000, in my room, and I can say , about %50(or more) of the photos were blurry.

I wonder if this is a negative side of Nx1000 or is there another problem???

I had a nx 3000 with similar issues. I loved the size and the quality of the photos when it did focus right. But all too often, it either could not get a focus lock, or thought it locked but the resulting photo was out of focus.  The problem was worse in low light.

I had an opportunity to upgrade to a reconditioned nx 30, and it works so much better!  Perhaps others can pipe in, but I;m guessing the issue is that the nx 3000 (and your nx 1000) use only contract detection for focusing, where as the newer nx cameras use contrast detection AND phase detection.

I had other reasons for upgrading to the nx 30. I missed having an EVF for starts. I do miss the size of my old nx 3000. But the focus issues in low light were really bugging me.

When I still had my nx 3000, there is one thing that helped when I was doing indoor photography. I picked up a cheap LED movie light on Amazon, and it provided enough illumination that the camera could lock focus better. The flash did not help, as it only fired after focus was locked, when the camera was actually taking photo.   It was kind of pain to carry around the movie light. But it really did help, and it's soft warm light, helped soften shadows on my photos.

Hope this helps.

Iv used the nx1000 alot and one thing you want to do is avoid auto. In auto it always sets the shutter speed really low causing your high blurry photo rate. You can switch to shutter priority mode  P  set your shutter no lower then 1/100 and you will get wonderful photos from the nx1000.

In shutter priority mode only thing you will need to control is the shutter the other settings will adjust automatically for you.

I hope this helps

Enjoy the nx1000

lol so I beat you to the punch.

here are 2 photo that demonstrate how bad auto/smart is with the NX1000

This is auto/smart:

shutter speed: 1/30

Aperture: f/4

ISO: 100

Flash: Fired

Here is it shot in shutter priority mode:

Shutter speed: 1/100

Aperture: f/4

ISO: 100

Flash: Fired

As you can see there really is no reason the camera should use that low of a shutter speed.

I would also recommend using selection AF this way you know what is going to get focused on since this camera has a tendency to focus on everything but what you want in Multi AF.

Once you know the faults of the camera and avoid Auto/Smart and Multi AF its truly a wonderful camera.

I even kept my NX1000 in my living room fully charged and ready to snap a photo of the kids.

Be sure your lens is and OIS Lens. It will have OIS printen in white on it. If not that means it is not stabalized.

NX300/NX30 much better in AF, NX500/NX1 even better. It's called evolution!

If you prefer smaller form factor, NX300 can be found for really cheap. NX30 is excellent though.

Re: NX1000 produces too many blurry photos?

Thank you all, for your answers.

We were staying at a hotel with my family in the last days, and when we came back I hadn't time to do experiments with camera, so I couldn't reply earlier, sorry for that.

Sendeva recommended to use P mode and setting shutter speed to at least 1/100.But in P mode I do not see shutter speed setting. If I change mode to M then there  it is.At M mode, I tried using shutter speed at 1/100 , F6.3(I am not sure what it is) and I tried ISO with different settings including ISO Auto.Under low -light in my room, I still  many times get blurry/unfocused pictures.I am using SAF or MAF(there are three settings for AF in M mode). Maybe I am setting one of the options wrong but I don't know which...

My NX1000's lens is not an OIS lens but when I put the camera on a table and use the timer function to take my own photo, it still takes  many blurry pictures(especially under a bit low light).

Don't get me wrong... the problem sits in front of the camera... from what I read you should make yourself familiar with the very basics of fotography...

The shutter speed affects ONLY the ambient light and NOT the light from the flash (since the flash is "instantaneous").   You should notice that the part of your wall NOT illuminated by the flash is much brighter at 1/30 than 1/100.

Camera "auto" mode is fine.  It understands how flash works.

Also, there will be no blur from subjects whose only light source is the flash, since the flash is "instantaneous".

Please provide examples if you'd like help diagnosing.

Is it really blurry or is it out of focus?

Is it camera shake? (It can't be camera shake for the flash photos if the only light source is the flash).

Is it motion blur? (It can't be camera shake for the flash photos if the only light source is the flash.)

Even if you use flash, you can get camera shake and or subject-motion blur if there is too much ambient light (as opposed to the flash) contributing to the exposure.

DON'T BLAME THE CAMERA!!!

Re: NX1000 produces too many blurry photos?

He had stated that he had the camera resting on a table with timer so camera shake has been eliminated. Leaving lower shutter speed and a subject that moves a bit causing the blur or camera error.

The camera's auto mode is complet garbage  in full daylight it favours extremely low shutter speeds like 1/60  -  1/30 and when flash is used it also favours low shutter speeds instead of upping the iso.

Re: NX1000 produces too many blurry photos?

In one of my posts here I was asking why my nx1100 advice me of a possible blurry pic instead of raising the iso. That's using P mode.

What mode do you suggest?

I also noticed that video focus is not that precise, what setting do you suggest with this camera? Multi, central or spot focus ?

Re: NX1000 produces too many blurry photos?

If you don't want "blurry" then crank up the ISO.

But then it will be "noisy".

If you get a "brighter" lens with a lower f number (like the 30mm f/2.0), then this will help with the "blurry" and "noisy" problem, but you might start to see more shots "out of focus", since the f/2.0 makes it more demanding to get the subject in focus since anything not in focus will be blurrier (which is usually the desired effect).

Hope that helps.

Re: NX1000 produces too many blurry photos?

Hi Suoko.

I would suggest useing S mode (Shutter priority mode, this mode you control the shutter speed and the camera will change the aperture and iso)

Try keep  your shutter speed around 1/120 in lower light drop it down a bit say 1/90 but play with the speeds and see how low you can go before camera shake starts to blur photos fast moveing subject's like kids will require 1/120 and above. Also use spot focus.

Best solution is to take full control and use M mode (Manual mode) this way you have full control over shutter, aperture, iso and then you can choose where to compromise.

This link has some good basic information.

http://www.exposureguide.com/photography-basics.htm

Hope this helps.

If you got any other questions ill do my best to answer them for you.

Re: NX1000 produces too many blurry photos?

Thanks for your answers.

I did some more experiments with the camera at home in last days.My impression is:

Under a bit low light coniditions(for example:my room), if I don't use the flash, many photos taken are blurry. If I use flash, most of the photos are not blurry.I used Smart mode mostly. Also sometimes tried using Manual mode using some different settings of ISO and shutter speed but photos were mostly blurry in my room(a bit low light) without using flash.Maybe there is a magic setting/combination of settings which may cause taking clear pictures(without flash) in my room but I haven't found it yet.

I wrote in a previous post that I sometimes use timer(self-timer) mode and take my own portrait and many of them are blurry(even if I use flash).A few days ago I read an article about that and it explains, when using self-timer mode, when we press the shutter to start timer,at that time it chooses the focus and cause when we are not in the position in front of the camera while pressing, when we take our place in front of the camera after a few seconds, it doesn't focus on us properly because the camera has already chosen it's focus when we first pressed the shutter to start timer. If there are some people in front of the camera while we are pressing the shutter, then when we take our place in the group there is less focus problem if there is any.

There are some advices for taking your own portraits using self-timer, like using manual focus and like putting a chair in front of the camera and make the camera focus on the chair while we are pressing the shutter, and then remove the chair from it's position and put yourself at the chair's previous position which was focussed by the camera.I find it a bit difficult but I will try them in the next days.

Re: NX1000 produces too many blurry photos?

Hi MichaelKnight.

I pulled out my NX1000 put it on a tripod to experiment your problem.

What I found was that you set the timer and as soon as you press that shutter it focuses and locks in on the wall or any items it finds in the focus box so when you sit down you wont be in focus.

They only way I could find to get around this is if a group of people select AF Area focus and make the box smaller and move it to the face of one of people in the group closest to the middle and focus on them and then get in the frame or use a remote shutter (I used a NX Camera Remote Switch SR2NX02) then when you press the shutter it will focus on you. Another way is to use a smart phone and download Samsung Smart Camera App then on the camera move the dial tp go and use Wi-Fi and select Remote Viewfinder this way you can use your smart phone as a remote shutter.

As for smart setting I highly recommend not using it and if you do use the flash and still even with that it has a high blur photo rate. I would suggest using S mode on the dial (shutter Priority mode) and selecting the shutter speed and the camera will do the rest its almost like auto but you control the shutter speeds and in my opinion that's a good thing.

Hope this was helpful.
