Are you pre-ordering the M5?

Just curious if people are going to pre-order.  For me, the combination of price and time frame (I wanted it for fall photos) has caused me to not pre-order it.

The price is killer. I won't be ordering until there are significant discounts.

No,

but I might be preordering that new 70-300mm.  Unless it is an optical disaster (unlikely) it looks like a bargain at $550.

Gee I thought it was cheap. Compare it to Fuji XT2 which is about US$1800 or Sony A6300 which is around US$1300.

I am most interested in the sensors performance.

Is this the first APSc mirrorless to have a touch screen?

Finall Canon is entering the mirrorless market with a competitive product. It will be interesting if the AF can match XT2 or A6300 which are now quite sophisticated.

Greg.

check out the 80D.. it should be around the same as that.

ummm.

well all the M's had touchscreen UI's

I thought the A5100 or one of the lower Sony's did touch at least somewhat.

The X-A3 has some sort of touchscreen I think.

But canon seems to to be the only one APS-C or larger that has a fairly well implemented touchscreen, esp with an EVF.

How much is body only price. What are the chances of some price drop by black friday? I think, we should see some discount in America where they have problem selling mirrorless bodies.

I guess, it is difficult to see any decent discounts until some time. Typically we see some crazy deals on Canon refurb during holiday shopping. But M5 won't be there.

In between why does dpr complaining about lens size with smaller cameras being hard sell?

"And asking people to invest in a small camera with the expectation that they'll use larger EF and EF-S lenses doesn't sound like the easiest sell."

Umm because mirrorless supposed to be smaller?

The thing is that sub 1,000 is rebel territory.. and most of them I see simply use their IS STM lens kits they got with the camera.

so for the majority of customers.. you get a 18-135mm and maybe a macro as a kit .. and you probably never need another bloody lens.

heck .. a 11-22, 18-150mm and the macro ..and I doubt I need another lens on an M.

Just ordered Body only from Amazon. I would have went with the 18-150 but no way I could wait an additional 2 weeks. I'll pick one up when it's offered desperately.

Exactly. Why complain about lens sizes being hard sell now. As we have seen with Sony, fast lens are going to be bigger. There are  lot of people adopting or purchasing big lens.

Are you sure?

3 month wait is way too long but 2.5 month wait is ok?

M5 could not compete with T2 for many reasons (pro-build and 4K video to be the most obvious). Its peer form Fuji would be T20 when it get 24Mp sensor from T2 early next year. Until then T10 will try to defend Fuji mid-range territory through more attractive pricing and much wider choice&quality of X-lenses.

6300 is only $100 more than M5 according to Firstimps here. And it has a proof in 4k video, higher fps and more mature AF system. So more direct competitor to M5 is a6000 which is well under $1000 now I guess.

Let's wait&see. I really doubt cause Fuji&Sony needed a couple of iterations to reach the level of T2/a6300. But even getting closer to them would be a great leap for Canon

No - too expensive and it's not out till the end of November. I'll keep my M3 for a while and wait til the price drops.

I did the same with the 6D and ended up with a bargain.
