G5x macro focusing problem

I like the G5x a lot, but compared to my previous G11 I have REAL problems with auto focus in macro mode. Anybody else having these issues? Any suggestions to make this work better? I have tried manual focus but don't have much success with this method either, probably lack of practice, I am not using manual focus very often.

Thanks,

Wolfgang

Re: G5x macro focusing problem

Have you tried manual focus with focus peaking on ? Try turning on the magnified (AF Point Zoom) display as well. It also has Focus bracketing feature

I believe the G11 has a closer macro focusing distance only 1cm perhaps the subject is too close to your G5x focusing range (5cm closest on wide)

Yes I almost never have to resort to MF on my G12 I just readjust my focal distance and keep pressing the shutter lightly to reengage a focus lock.

I recently switched from a G12 to a G5X, and you're absolutely right: AF in macro mode is awful on the G5X.  I don't trust it at all — especially if I've zoomed in, even just a little bit.  ("Tracking" focus doesn't work well in macro mode either.)

Safety MF

Anyone test MF difference while Safety MF is ON and OFF?

While ON, manual p85 states:

"Fine-tune the focus.

Press the shutter button halfway to have the camera fine-tune the focal position (Safety MF)."
