My trip to Santorini
10

Hi to all...

My trip to Santorini was wonderful! I had the Pen - F and the GX85 with the 12-40 f2.8 , 40-150 f2.8 and the Pana 100-400mm ..

The 100-400mm is behaving much better mounted to GX85 but the colour rendering of jpg of the Pen F is astonishing!

The island is probably among the best places for a photographer in the whole world! The view from the villages is breathtaking and the interesting photos to shoot are endless!

Here are some photos that i uploaded ...

I liked this one in particular:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143898456@N05/29412186442/in/album-72157673450425306/

.. but found that some pics were a bit underexposed. Were those pics jpg or did you process raw files?

Always happy to see some travel pics! Overall I think your photos could be of some interest on the Travel & Landscape forum.

Ah, yes and one more thing: I think you might have some dust on your GX85 sensor ...

Top left, the spot.

Very nice!  Sometimes pictures of Santorini can be cliché. Most of yours are not. (We can't help but get a few cliché photos of Santorini.  How else could we prove that we have been there?)

Did you use your 100-400 lens to get some of those architectural details?

Wonderful photos, thanks for sharing! Santorini was one of several highlights of our 20th anniversary trip in April 2010, although we actually spent the day of our anniversary in the hospital ER!

Many great memories of the amazing sights, great food, and friendly people. We are longing to go back and explore more of Greece! We especially enjoyed the hike over the top of Ancient Thira from Perissa to Kamari. Here is a favourite shot of my wife, who was happy to see the descent to Kamari... (taken with E-410 and kit zoom)

I will spend more time perusing your album another day!

I recall many of mine were a bit dark, as I was extra cautious to avoid blowing highlights on the old 10Mp sensor. The richness of the blues really comes out, but there can be some pretty deep shadows also.

It has been way too long ...

... in fact in 1994. Thanks for the nice reminder! Should go through my slides from back then.

Re: It has been way too long ...

Yep, that it was. Thanks to my parents I knew Greece already quite well, an we were on Santorini in 2003. Back then I thought the first place I would show my hypothetical girlfriend would be that island. And that's what we did in 1994 (non-hypothetically) , when we took the ferry from Crete to spend some days there.

I even remembered a restaurant which put up some tables on the cliff side, where you could watch the sun going down behind the western crater rim.

Re: People don't go there anymore....

Yeah, it was already very crowded in 1994. But I can imagine it to be much worse nowadays. There are however still many places in Greece that are comparatively quiet or even deserted in high season.

It was very peaceful in late April 2011 (got year wrong earlier!) - we took a picnic and bottle of wine to the little church on the far side of Skaros Rock at Imerovigli, watched the sunset, and didn't see a soul... a photo on the return to our hotel that night (taken with a Stylus 5010 P&S) is on the back cover of our photobook:

https://www.mixbook.com/photo-books/travel/greco-roman-adventure-final-7079413

Santorini is truly a magical place! We stayed our last few nights there at this place, and can highly recommend it for a way to get the amazing view without the price ($35 euro/night for a large 1br suite!) - just walk across the road to see it. Our view was over vineyards down to the ocean, but it was a few minutes walk to the 300+ /night places on the other side of the road. We were there for the Easter weekend, and the sight of fireworks across the island was spectacular from our patio, and we came back to fresh Easter treats left by the hosts on Sunday.

I spent a week on Antiparos with my wife, my son, and his family.  It is a lovely, uncrowded place . . . . and it has some pretty good SCUBA diving.  There is also a great cave!

Great picture. I was also there this summer with my Panny G7 and took the 7-14mm, 14-140mm, 11-42mm and 25mm Panasonic lenses with me. This is a small selection of the shots I took: https://www.flickr.com/photos/elchivato/albums/72157671394778186

Wonderful Island.

Was there with my girlfriend in 1995 or 96 ... we stayed on the campground for about a week. We visited the cave, and once rented bikes to get to the butterfly valley on Paros. The last 15 years we spent more or less on the Peloponnese doing lot of snorkelling in also quite uncrowded places.

Limeni, Mani

Of course there were people, but you should not forget this is full high season, since need to go at that time. Still, not that many people in the water. Italy in high season in many places is much more crowded ... but then again, we are going there, so why shouldn't others

Beautiful place! We are thinking of returning to Europe this December. What places have ok weather at that time? Obviously it won't be hot but as long as it's not rainy we won't mind. ..
