Portraits with X70 and XA1 wth XC 50-230
Aug 27, 2016
2
I've had the X70 for less than one month and have taken a "gazillion", as in lots of, photos on my trip to Canada. The shots below were taken on Hornby Island. There are also a few shots taken with my XA1, just for comparison purposes. I have had to do some PP but usually just cropping. I have been travelling to see relatives and friends and enjoying the fabulous scenery and the great weather we have been having on the West Coast of Canada this Aug. I will include, if people are interested, some scenic shots in a future post.
It has been a great learning experience and am finding the X70 a very versatile performer, even tho at times in outdoor scenic situations I have needed a zoom or longer lens. But in order to determine the capabilities of this camera, I have tried to spend as much time as possible with just the X70 without the XA1 and my other lenses. The X70 is particularly good at closeups and portraits and indoor shots of small groups. Even the odd selfie. Also, outdoor scenes and landscapes, tho at times the inability to zoom in on something in the distance is frustrating. I have found the AF very good and able to take quick candid shots much better than with my XA1, even in low light. This has sometimes entailed switching to higher ISOs or exposure compensation. It would be useful to have an ISO dial or some quicker way to change the ISO as it takes time to go into the Q menu. That said, the X70 retains it's excellent IQ at higher ISOs.

Would be interested in any comments of a constructive nature.
