M series needs a lens of 300mm or greater. Using an adapter for EF lenses gives good results, but adds unnecessary weight and produces an imbalance (front end bias) when shooting. That said, the camera and its kit lens and telephoto zoom are great given it is the original version!

I do agree. There are also some good teleconverters. So 300 x 2 x 1.6 would give equivalent of 960mm. The M focused with teleconverted lenses up to f/13 - f/16 in my test, so it would be non issue for static shots. It could be really small tele system, lately eating some bread of superzooms chunk.
