This lens is very nice indeed.

Sharp results across the complete range 70-300

maybe I am lucky but also 300mm really good

Fast focusing for a consumer lens

The low weight  ...... LOVE IT !

Probably selling my 70200

Very happy user

Marc --

You are a quite fortunate to have such a lens with which you are happy.

For reasons that are unclear to me, this lens is subject to a high degree of sample variance.  My copy -- an early one in the first six months of production years back -- is visibly and frustratingly poor north of 200mm.  I did not notice it so much on the 10mp d80 for which it was bought, but softness across the frame is visible on the d7000 and really so on the  FX d600.

I thought about sending it in for service.  I bought a 80-400G instead, with which i am happy.  But its performance (in the corners particularly) declines north of 300mm . . .

I got the lens in 2009.  It still works perfectly - it is sharp and focuses  quickly.

I was looking for a better telezoom- bought Nikon 70-200 f/4 which  was not much better than  mine  (at least not $1000 better) so I returned it. Tried 70-200 f/2.8 - it was BIG and HEAVY so I returned it too (I also could not justify  almost 2K spent on a hobby...)

Thinking of getting 85mm f1.8 for low light shooting...

You buy two pretty expensive lenses and returned both for basically no reason. Nice.
