Canon Rebel Auto Focus turned off..

A colleague of mine borrowed my Canon EOS Rebel T3 and upon its return I notice now it does not autofocus.  Usually before I took a photo red indicator lights would flash in the view finder and the lens would autofocus until it found the right focus and would take the photo.

Now it just takes the photo regardless of how blurry it is.

I'm thinking this person may have turned a feature off but no matter what I try I can't get it back to this original setting

please help!

AF is controlled by a switch on the lens, not the camera. Did you check that?

Two possibilities

1- Check the AF/MF switch position on the lens.

2- Check custom function settings for exposure and focusing to the shutter release button.  It is under Custom functions "Operation/others".  Under "Shutter/AE Lock button" it should be set to 0, meaning assigning both the exposure and focus to the shutter release button.

Good suggestions,

and if you haven't checked, make sure the camera in not set in the 'M' mode and make sure AI servo hasn't been turned on.  I don't think the camera has to achieve focus to release the shutter in these modes.

This was the solution!

Thank you so much
