looking for help on posting (from a new registrant)

I've recently signed up, read all rules and instructions I've been able to find, and have attempted four of five postings of images requesting comment/critique. Each time I get a notice of "an error".  PMs to the moderator each time have resulted in no response. Can anyone offer suggestions as to where some help may be available. The images have been sized smaller than most posted here, so I'm at a loss.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Dave

Re: looking for help on posting (from a new registrant)

I can post full sized 5184x3456 pixel JPG images without any problems so it likely isn't a size problem.

Look up at the top right of the DPReview web page and you will see your user name and an icon. Click on your user name, right click on Upload to galleries., and click on Open Link in New Tab.

If you already have a photo gallery select it.

If you don't already have a photos gallery you need to create one. In the Upload panel you will see: Album:[no album selected] with a Change button. Click on the button. In the pop-up window select Create new album.

Now that you have a photo album selected you need to upload your sRGB color space JPGs. The upload procedure is fairly easy to understand so I won't detail it.

Don't try to upload any other format than sRGB JPGs.

If you are creating JPGs from RAW, PSD, or TIFF images make sure they are being saved as sRGB JPGs. The colors for an aRGB or a ProPhoto JPG won't display correctly on the web.

Once you have your JPGs uploaded to a DPReview photo gallery use this command to embed a photo in your post.

Re: looking for help on posting (from a new registrant)

A simpler method:

Open a new post.

On the right side under the title, click on the second icon from right (with the mountains)

Choose "insert image from your computer"

Your computer directories opens, choose the image folder and choose the image.

If you want others images from the same folder, repeat the procedure and add other images. The computer will search in the same folder until you change it.

You can post big images, but appart from special needs is better to resize the images before you post them. It will be easier for the viewers that most of them anyway vill view the images on an HD (1920x1080) monitor.

Re: looking for help on posting (from a new registrant)

Thank you, Zeev,

I'll give it a go right now:

My question is, is one of these two formats preferred to permit viewing by one's choice of parallel gaze vs. crossed eyes?

Thanks,

Dave

Re: looking for help on posting (from a new registrant)

Thanks,, SailorBlue,

It turns out that "upload to Galleries" requires "Adobe Flash" which is incompatible with my IPad...from which I do all on-line activities.

I am thus trying another suggestion that may work from my iPad. I'm waiting to see if it works.

Cross eyed images are easier to free view.

I use with a stereoscope for printed parallel images. Google's Cardboard viewer is a stereoscope that lets you use you phone to display parallel images instead of having to print them out.

I also prefer cross eyes for seeing the stereo pictures on my computer.

If I transfer the images to my smartphone I use direct view and use Samsung Gear VR.

For viewing the 3D images on the 3DTV I use the MPO format.

Hi Zeev,

Have you tried viewing huge cross-view pairs? Do you think it is easy to view a pair of images if I print it out on 2x A3-size paper? I have not tried it but hope to do it soon.

Hi hdr,

I have no problem viewing cross-view pairs on my 50" TV. Of cause the distance to the TV is also important: If you are too close may be painful to watch.

The difference between direct view and cross view is than human eyes can convert to see cross-view, but they cannot goes the other way. because this, cross-view is not limited in size but direct view is limited by the distance between your eyes.

Happy Hammer head shark!!! LOL

Ah, thank you, Zeev.

I am happy that you confirmed that cross-view pairs can be viewed at big size. I know it is impossible to view parallel-view pairs which are bigger than the distance separating our two eyes. That is why I like cross-view so much.

I am eager to print cross-view pairs on 2xA3 size paper as as I do not have a big monitor or TV. I can make an album of A3 prints which I will enjoy tremendously.

Free viewing rocks!
